This has nothing to do with the Lions incident but just generally I was listening to the radio last night and they interviewed Peter Sterling about the NRL and he made the appropriate and obvious comment with regards to players who muck up that they need to realise that the game DOESN'T NEED them, there will always be a depth of talent waiting to step in to fill a persons role. The players need to realise that they're the ones that NEED the game and not the other way round.

I thought it was a really sensible and appropriate comment.

Getting back to the original story, don't people in wheelchairs need specific cabs that allow access through the back of the cab to allow them on? Isn't it like a giant ramp that folds out from the back, which if true wouldn't allow seating of 8 or 9 guys in it in the first place. Unless of course he just uses the wheelchair occasionally and can get in a normal cab and can put his wheelchair in the back?

I thought all maxi taxi's supported patrons in a wheelchair.

There are the maxi taxis and then there is the people mover type set up which is just like a big van. The latter doesn't have wheelchair facilities but is sometimes called a maxi.

Talking to a bloke who runs cabs and he said that most owners are moving away from the maxi because the money is crap and the government subsidies have been reduced. They much prefer the people mover setup which obviously doesn't have the wheelchair facilities.

The paper edition of the Courier Mail did not really attack this story with its normal sensationalist gusto.

That says volumes about this incident IMO.

Exactly what I thought when looking through the CM this morning - when I had to look twice to find the Rich story I knew the heat must already be out of the situation, and I expect it to die a natural death from here.

If the CM didn't think it was worth a run on the front or back page it's pretty safe to assume that no-one's interested any more, TT looking even more pathetic in hindsight.

So, all the bad news is out of the way and we can now continue with our glorious post-season success stories...

There might have been some minor indiscretions by the players, and I am not making excuses for them. But it smacks of a little bit of ambulance-chasing by the lawyer concerned as others have said. Drum up some bad publicity, hope for a quick payout and collect an easy few grand.

The fact that this happened on Sunday and we found out on Friday says enough to indicate that the wheelchair gentleman was induced to take his issue public rather than allow a police investigation to occur.

If the players, and Rich in particular acted inappropriately then there are simple ways for them to make amends and then put it behind them. They clearly haven't broken any laws sufficient for police to lay charges.

I suspect this will be the first and only time that Daniel Rich's name will be associated with any sort of scandal.

Interesting that on the footy telecast last night they mentioned that Rich is in Fiji yet clearly people saw him at the presentation last night as well.

My guess is that the media aren't giving this too much attention other that Today Tonight. And TT is quite literally a program with less scruples and journalistic integrity than Big Footy's Bay 13. And that is saying something!

One of the initial stories I read said he'd been "in and out of a wheelchair" after "falling off a roof". Smack of compo claim to anyone else?

I think it is unfair to jump to conclusions about the complainant.

The media and the bloke's lawyer are fair game though.

Yeah I agree though will add that I immediately doubt the intentions of those who run straight to Today Tonight or a Current Affair.

I agree. I'm pretty sure it was a paid interview where TT chased him though, otherwise it would have been a promo story that they would have been plugging for 24hrs + in advance. They rushed to air it b4 the wind could be taken out of the story.

Yep. Three of those are nations are going through the teething pains of democracy. That hurts and sometimes takes decades to settle Think of the terror and death that followed the French revolution, think of the state crackdown after the english civil war.

Ah yes, the French Revolution ... we have the progressives to thank for that!

That is a typically hopeful statement of utopian progressives.

Progressives are convinced that progress is inevitable. They are convinced that you can uproot existing structures and be certain they will be replaced by better. Progressives take no account of fallen human nature. Progressives, against all the evidence, believe that humans are essentially good and so things will continually improve.

It is such a mindset that led progressives to cheer the overthrow of the Egyptian Government, believing that the muderous Muslim Brotherhood thugs would, by an election, be transformed into moderates. Sadly, when the Brotherhood promised to be moderates, by "moderates" all they meant was "not alqaeda". The difference between progressives and Blind Freddy is that Blind Freddy could see that coming!

The same mistake will now be made in Syria.

Democracy is not the normal state of affairs. It is a very rare form of Government, both in history and in contemporary times, because humanity tends toward oppression rather than freedom. Don't get me wrong ... we all love freedom, just not for the other guy!

Progressives are the same, but they dress up their oppressive tendencies as "being in the best interests of humanity" which makes them especially dangerous.

:)

These guys were more believable than any Today Tonight journo.

Reminds me of when I had a 15 inch ruler broken on my head to the rhythmic lecture of "DE...LE...CONTRACTS...TO...DU.

Mate, that's nothing. I remember in grade 5 at Camberwell state school (No.888), Mr. Feehan whacked me on the arse with a yard rule, and asked if it hurt... I proudly said Nah, so he hit me again and shattered the ruler in a thousand pieces. He asked me again if it hurt, to which I promptly replied, "yeah that'll do." 100% true story.:p Thems were the days.

And having been charged and disqualified for driving without a licence diminishes my sympathy for him being aggrieved about a misdemeanour.
