Very gutsy, did it when we needed to. Handy help from the top-ups. Harwood and Crisp outstanding late, Paparone very good up forward too.

Only saw the second half but very happy with our effort

Final score anyone?

88 to 76 I think?

EDIT: I texted a mate when it was 69 all, I think the final score was:

Southport: 9.22.76 vs Lions: 14.4.88

Ace 4, Paps 3, rest singles.

Lions 14.4.88 defeated Southport 9.22.76

Massive effort by the boys, especially the 31-18 discrepancy in scoring shots and the fact we only played with 3 interchange in the second half and subsequently reduced to only 12 listed players.

Not a bad effort.

The ressies win has got me pumped for tonight now.

We wasted it in the second quarter. Reckon fitness was the difference in the end.
That seems a common thread to our ressies games. Often we power home after an even first half. Maybe this indicates that the standard of the better teams in the NEAFL skill wise isn't too bad but that we leave them behind in the fitness stakes.

Only got to watch the last quarter and Harwood played really well. Him and Crisp were the difference in the midfield in the 4th. Was Karnesis getting tagged? I think I saw him get one touch (a great pass to Cornelius on the lead), but otherwise only saw him at the centre bounces.

As for Ace, not sure if it was because of the wind but he seemed to be all too happy to stand 4 steps behind his opponent and jump on his back to try and mark the ball. It's not a strategy you think would translate to AFL, but how does he learn to play against defenders that know how to position their body if the NEAFL can't provide that? Perhaps it was only in the last quarter when his defender started to tire, but it does make me wonder if he will really develop in the reserves.

Sadly, I think Ace knows he's too good for the ressies and probably doesn't do all the right things.

I think he will find it tough to find more development from the NEAFL - kicking bags every week hasn't seemed to translate at AFL level. I worry he'll be an 'in-betweener' for his whole career; too good for the NEAFL, not good enough for AFL.

Only 2 on the bench actually.

O'Brien and Banfield took no part in second half.

Was an awesome effort. Really like the way Leigh Harding goes about his stuff:thumbsu:
