I suppose that leaves Emma King, Kellie Gibson and Renee Forth as the most notable West Australians in terms of remaining potential Eagles.

And from the Demons' 18 re-signings it's hard to go past the absence of Meg Downie and Bianca Jakobsson.

Well we can rule out Forth too, having already posted this in the day:

Kirby Bentley would be the next-highest profile player who might be getting a call from WA to come home, delisted by Carlton today. I'm surprised/disappointed we haven't seen a certain few ex-Dockers signed up with West Coast by now. A lot of those girls who got cut 12-24 months ago could definitely play but were held back by injury or fitness at the time, and I've been harbouring hope of seeing them return in better shape with the Eagles.

Bit of talk about Conti to Richmond and Pound to Gold Coast, which at least seems plausible. The Bri Davey to Collingwood rumour is pretty strange because you'd think St Kilda would be in a stronger position to get her if she does want to leave Carlton.

The VWFL St Kilda never had a connection to the Saints.

The ex Dockers will be signed in the draft. This current period is for trades and expansion team signings from other clubs.

Her connection to the Sharks isn't what I'm getting at. Seems odd to me that Collingwood, despite being a bigger club, could make an offer so much more enticing than what St Kilda could. After all, which is the team without a so-called marquee player, and which is the team that can sign such players without having to trade for them?

Are there not any ex-Dockers in the Eagles' academy? I was under the impression those players could be signed from any time between December '18 and August '19.

Some can, not sure how many. We already signed 2 academy players. I guess it's better to sign the fresh young prospects with high ceilings first, rather than let Freo get a look at them.

Not sure what Greg Swann is on about. They can lose 8 players to expansion clubs via free agency, and anybody else who wants to leave must do so through a trade. That's exactly what's supposed to happen, far as I'm aware.

Given Brisbane has to cut 11 players from their squad of 33 to get down to the required 22 anyway, it's worth waiting to see the dozen departing names (and any players they're getting back in return for trades) before deciding how badly affected the Lions will actually be.

On top of that, they clearly underperformed this year. Melbourne entered 2019 with two less grand final appearances and a more severe list of exclusions than the Lions, still managed to be among the best few teams in the competition.

The AFLWebsite went with the Bri Davey story yesterday. I do think simply a top 3 pick would be a fair deal, but there's a risk Collingwood won't have that to give if St Kilda and Richmond get a lot of recruiting compensation at the draft.

Do they have to trade? The players are all out of contract, and a player going back to Vic could just nominate for the Vic draft. So, even if they do trade, the Lions have no leverage at all. No contract, no means to force them to stay in the Lions if no suitable trade is offered.

If that scenario eventuated then it would indeed be ridiculous because it runs contrary to how things have unfolded in the league so far. A few examples: technically GWS, Brisbane, Adelaide and probably Melbourne could've signed up Eva+Bernardi, Arnell, Forth and Radan without trading for them.

The short history we have to draw from also suggests that when a trade can't get done, players simply end up re-signing with their original club (which reminds me jatz, chop-chop on the avatar update!).
