I can't wait for this years draft, seeing how well we came out of it this year, and I haven't heard that the list management staff will be leaving so I'm really excited to see who we recruit/trade.

I would hang on to Richards. He certainly has not been a bad defender for us this season and this was evident on Saturday when Malceski,Grundy and Kennelly made some game changing errors (more so Heath and Nick before half time). There are not alot of defenders coming through.Maybe we will have to thrown Sam reid into the backline as apparantly there aren't many good defenders available to us in the draft.

I really don't want to see Richards go but I think we need to get senior games into Reid next season and Richard's opportunities may be limited.

Why are people so sure that O'Dwyer is gone? I would have thought so mid-season but he was an emergency only a week or two ago was he not? I couldn't imagine the coaching staff would consider him for seniors if he wasn't doing something right. Barlow and Thornton are the only certainties to be delisted IMO.

Re: List Management Who stays - who goesList Management Who stays - who goes As most of you know in

And fair enough.

I put his name out there because I don't know how keen the team are to have a 28 year old reserves player if he's not in the making for a regular team spot.

He plays like he did last night he stays, he plays like how he started the season or his mid season form last year than were better off without him. The uncertainty over Boltons injury it's probably worth keeping him.
We have zero defensive depth. None.

In my opinion, here's our key defenders:

C Bolton
Roberts-Thomson
Grundy
Richards

Heath is not a key defender, Reid looks like playing more across the half forward line. We literally have nobody else, surely we can't afford to get rid of any of them and we really need to add some depth.

Barlow, O'Dwyer and Thornton are likely to be delisted or traded. Veszpremi is highly likely to be on the trade table with perhaps Moore. Talk of anyone else being traded is very slight IMO. Teddy is a Swan through and through so he stays. He has no value trade-wise anyway-too old. Mitchell will go father-son so we might only have two other drafts. On the rookie list I think Orreal is in trouble as well as Gilchrist who hasn't come on. What are we looking for? Another key defender, a young ruckman and a young defender. In this regard I have high hopes that Campbell Heath will develop into a senior player next season. He appears to have the basics.

I really like campbell heath, more for the fact if he lined up next to my cousin you wouldn't be able to tell them apart than anything else.

That's 4 blokes who you would confidently select in round 1 in a key position and be comfortable that they'd do the job, that is the definition of depth. If you scour the other lists I dont think most other clubs would have that.

We probably need to find some replacements in the next couple of drafts with Bolt in his 30's and LRT 27

I can't fathom why people would advocate getting rid of Richards. I'm not his biggest fan, but he is a very solid depth player and really did a great job over the last two months of the season after it appeared he might not make his way back into the team. As a defender, I reckon he is much more reliable than Mattner for example. He might not be in everyone's ideal best 22, because it's always more fun to think about how the young prospects slot into the team, but injuries happen and Richards can come in and not miss a beat. You need a couple of guys like that on a list. He's not a fashionable player, but he's far from our worst.

In the 'who needs to perform' thread we discussed Pyke and about him staying on the international rookie list but still I dont understand? Cas and RTTF tried to explain but I dont get it? I thought I would ask again in this thread it seems the right place...... I thought that Pyke being on that rookie list it is better for us because his salary doesnt come under the cap and a few other benefits. Cas suggested it was so another team without a ruck could throw more money at him but if he has already signed for two years surely he would have to stay put anyway for now at least? RTTF said it wont be happening he will be elevated? What are the rules?
I was just thinking about the rookie system and ways to rort it.

What kind of drugs have some you been smoking.

If you can't understand why Richards place on the list is 100% safe over the last 10 weeks then you have either got rocks in your head or you just don't get it.

I just I don't understand why so many people here have no idea about list management and what is required to field a team over the course of a full year, which includes a spread of senior players as cover.

Sure Reid looks promising and Campbell Heath has shown signs, but neither of them will be capable of holding down a key defensive post next year for extended periods of time. Sam's brother Ben has taken 4 years on a senior list to hold down a KP defender post.

We have just seen what an achillies injury has done to a great player over the age of 30 so there is no gaurantee Bolton will be on the park for all the games next year and LRT has shown over the years that when he does pick up an injury it usually means an extended period of time out.

Richards will be going no where based on the spread of possible key defenders on our list.

With the Gold Coast Suns getting the pick of the crop this year and an already lean batch of kids due to them taking the best ten 17 years olds last year we will not take any more picks this year than the minimum 3 picks.

We may look to trade for another pick (or established player) with a Vespa on the table, but that is highly unlikely this year. Currie is not an option for trade as you don't take an underage ruckman, put 4 years into them and then trade on the fifth year when their body is ready for senior football, he will be on our list in 2011 and be expected to play.

Talk of trading Moore is just pure fiction.

There has been three players on our list at present who have been so for multiple years, been tried and failed for various years and they are Barlow, Thornton and O'Dwyer.

Look no further than these three as our only de-listments and then we only may need to remove 2 anyway.

Barlow is defiantly gone!

Vespremi looks likely to be offloaded to another club, I wouldn't mind looking at Everitt from the Bulldogs as possible trade for Vespremi.

Bevan and Moore are safe you would think unless something 'unbelievable' comes to the table.

McVeigh seems to be a bit of a worry, too many inconsistent performances this season. Absolutely went missing on Saturday night, it's not good enough but can't see him being put up for trade.

Richards did a good job to cover LRT's absence. Will be interesting to see Ted goes next season with Bolton and LRT likely to be the front runners.

The only decent trade bait we have is Vez and Currie.

Vez will go.

The cost of retaining Pyke will be Currie - this year or next. We will regret that.

No other club would take Moore, so we won't have any luck there.

The only club that will take bevan is GWS, and we'll have to wait 12 months for that to happen. He'll captain their reserves.

Ted is a trooper and deserves his spot on the list.
