Monfries couldn't have signed as Essendon have the right to match the offer. Not to mention the FA period hasn't started.

Seems crazy. I thought Bate would probably be not that much worse but he rarely gets a game. I can't see him being a player that will improve Melbourne's problems and 4 years seems too long.
They need players with big hearts first.

You can sign Moloney for two years and it would almost be like a trade. Personally I think Moloney would be a fantastic addition to the Essendon midfield and I would have him ahead of Monfries who goes weeks without impacting games of football.
