Would just like to point out that according to the club (and also The Age the other day) the actual tribute is only going to be about 15 minutes. Pretty standard I would've thought.

Obviously the Herald Sun decided to sensationalise things a bit by including all of the time between the lap of honour and the coin toss.

Hahaha, and the idiots take the bait again.

Actually Fu, I reckon Lloyd is a far better media/public performer than I gave him credit to be.
His voice is mono toned and sounds monotonous ( obviously) and I havent found him to be witty or anything that grabs my attention in terms of content. His appearances on the Footy Show were bland and uninspiring, much like most ( when is Cooney going to get a regular gig?). but he may have gotten better.

I think the ceremonial 300th goal is a nice touch.. but it should be proceeded by a ceeimonial 10,000th dive, and ceremonial 20,000th soft free kick. It wouldnt make sense otherwise. All the little bomber children would get confused.

This didn't get the attention it deserved.

I can't understand the outrage over an Essendon initiative to honour an Essendon champion at Essendon home games at Essendon's home ground.

Your club is doing it by overwriting the name of a player who achieved 10 times more than Lloyd did in his career. In practise I don't really care that much, cause hell I won't be there to see it, but honoring your players by renaming things is silly, even more so when the player who you're trying to take the name off was better.

Up to 15 pages of jealousy now :thumbsu:.

We will never see another Matthew Lloyd, no current player will come close to his 926. Looking forward to sending him off in style.

I think everyone's bemused that Lloyd has agreed to all this, to be honest. Does it say something about his mentality? Or perhaps he is embarassing himself to help his club sell those medallions? If so, I applaud him for his loyalty . . .

It's just difficult to understand what the thinking is. It's bizzare stuff.

Only 6 players in the game's history have kicked more goals than him (and nobody kicked more in the last 15 years), so he deserves all the kudos that come his way. I'm willing to compromise on the renaming of the end. It's only for Essendon home games anyway, so Collingwood will probably never be involved (as we usually play the Dons at the MCG, no matter whose home game it is).

****ter boy gets a 40 minute farewell, gee there must be something in this diving capper, I wonder what Riewoldlt will get when he's had enough of diving and cries his goodbye.

Any less bizarre than motorcylce jumps on the MCG?

It's a publicity stunt; gives 299 people the chance to get the ground before the game (how evil and bizarre is this club!); fills some dead time before the game.

Just drive around the ground (which wouldn't take 4 minutes) and get off the park. wtf are they going to do over 40 minutes, it is excessive.

Also, Collingwood have had 7 months to say something about re-naming the Coventry end. No point crying about it 3 days before the event.

Am I right in thinking the Bulldogs have re-named the ends for their home games at some stage too?
