Was that a joke tooley? St albans and footscray tafe would be some of the scummiest blokes goin round.
Plus they are TAFES..
1 - he asked for UNI clubs and 2 - in geelong, not the scum of the earth

Right on the money there champ! and just to add 3 -He said , a good standard of footy!!!
I didn't think Centrals would be wanting anyone anyway, seeing as there was 60 at training.:D :D :D

Come on fellas.. Everyone knows the Belmont Lions is where all the Deakin kids play thier footy. I agree that the better one's try themselves at GFL and BFL but they mostly step down to the GDFL so that the training/partying/working ratio fits into thier studying. Apparently some of the GFL coaches frown on the students being in room 99 on a Thursday night and don't get started on Sunday morning rehab/training....

Fare point, but heres some info on each
Shannon - chasing money and a flag
Mayberry - properly wont play due to work and only played 6 games last year
Gilham - Coaching West
Calbert - has returned
Cornish - young guy stepping up to a higher league at the right time in his footy career
Tobin - Dont know who this guy is ?
2 of the above are supposed to be good mates with the new coach and told him they would play, who needs enemies with mates like these!
Just had a look at the transfer list and the other names on it would all play two's even this year with numbers being low.
Can someone let me know how Barwon Heads will go this year, i have noticed they have lost a few players, will Shannon get his Flag or just take the money and run again

SK,
You sound as if you have a personal issue with Matty Shannon has he torn you a new one when you had to play on him one day?
He is on very little at barwon heads and has gone there to play with his brother luke.
Mayberry will play the whole year and only played 1/2 of last year as he was coming back from a knee injury. will kick 40 goals easily
I hope you play against barwon heads, because you will know who Tobin is by the end of it

Not personal mate, he only lasted half a quter against us and his team mates were dirty on him for going off due to the easy coin he got for the day, im just assuming that his on the same if not more travelling down to Heads 3 times a week.
Isn't Mayberry a dwarf, lucky theres a drought so the grass dont grow

Funny call, but the kid can play football.
Is there a touch of envy in your posts SK? As you seem to be more worried about Werribee C, and what they are paid. Maybe if you concentrated on your own game, you may improve to a level that demands that type of renumeration.

Lara's midfield is looking quite classy at this stage of the year. Not much experience but a lot of class amongst them.

Their B&F winner last year Aaron Hassett, Runner-up Anthony Elliott, Sam Allen and Martin Curtis were the foundations of their midfield and this year they will have the addition of Leigh Hardman and Matt Firman. Lara, who aren't expected to be a dominating team this year, are creating a pretty damaging midfield. They will catch teams by suprise, in particular with thier leg speed and fitness, and will cause a few upsets.

Average age: 20.5 yo!

The midfield hardly caused problems last year did it? And Hardman and Firman are unproven at the higher level. WHo is going to kick their goals? In the least couple of years they have lost Kershaw, Plowman, Zane nawrocki, Hughes and now Aaron Nawrocki looks like he isnt playing. Who have they replaced them with?

Firman unproven? Did play consistantly for Bendigo Bombers and read that he did quite well in the ACT. I know Hardman is unproven at the moment but to win a league Best and Fairest infront of some quality players (Fastuca, Trotter, O'Toole) is a fair acheivement.

I was making the point that their midfield will catch some of the opposition midfields by surprise this year. I know they will struggle to kick a winning score because they don't have any dominating forwards but their is some hope with their midfield.

Yer also agree with you whispers.. and if those 5 or 6 blokes have a good season we could be seeing a few upsets in the GFL.. and on there foward line thye will have a few good small fowards as almost all of the midfield can play up foward.. lara just need to find 2 big men (CHF,FF) that can kick 100 to 150 goals between the two of them and then maybe lara can be more of a threat

If any club found 2 big men that could kick 150 between you would think they are a threat. These players dont grow on trees. On forward line topic who has the most potent forward mix in the GFL/BFL/Gdfl leagues.

Also Matty Firman unproven, good one mate played VFL snrs and was named to play AFL snrs late in year but did his string. MIGHT BE ABLE TO HANDLE GFL IF HE IMPROVES A LITTLE.

Is he any relation to the Firman that played at BPH last season. Excuse my ignorance if so.

:D Ok my fault, had the wrong Firman in my mind! He is a good pickup then!

Although on the other hand, there have been several ex AFL/VFL players who havent produced in the GFL for whatever reason...so technically, he is unproven in the GFL! :)

Ok boys clearances are being fired in, recruiting just about done, praccy matches getting underway. need the answers to the questions and predictions.

Will leopolds heavy recruiting get them into the finals?
Are Sth Barwon montys for a 3 peat?
Any of the big teams likely to slide?
Will red wests recruits make a differnce or will they still struggle badly?
Will St Albans win a game?
Will North Shore rise again under keasty?
Can Newtown bounce back into the finals?
Who has been hurt the most by departures?

Not far away now boys looking forward to whats shaping up as a steller year of local geelong Footy?

Will leopolds heavy recruiting get them into the finals?
It should, considering they did miss out on the finals last year due to St. Mary's beating Sth Barwon in the last round. By recruiting McGuiness (CHF - Can play!), Purton (CHB) and Walker (Ruck), they have a stronger and lethal spine. Lynch adds goal kicking power as a small forward and Bolton adds more pace to their match winning midfield.

Are Sth Barwon montys for a 3 peat?
Monty's.... Not to sure about that. They have lost a few players to retirement and overseas (Marshell, Enright, Rau??), Nathan Reid has gone back to Winch and Daniel Hermans to Modewarre. However, they have picked up the Corrigan brothers who have either played AFL (Paul) or VFL (Mark) for many years. Should be top 3 easily but won't have large victories like last year.

Any of the big teams likely to slide?
St. Mary's. Have lost Bye, Schultz, Jones, Fopiani and Cox. Not only do they lose experience, leadership and skill but they lose their winning structure. They will be too young and with many teams improving, it could be a shallow year for St. Mary's.

Will red wests recruits make a differnce or will they still struggle badly?
They will make a huge difference. With the arrival of Riccardi, Gilham, Carson brothers, Saunders, Whiteford etc, the Roosters are revived! Huge numbers are rocking up to training and big sponsers are getting on board. Not sure if they will make finals but they will cause a few upsets on their way.

Will St Albans win a game?
With a lot of recruits from some good leagues, I'm sure the Supersaints will win at least one game! If not, they won't be in the GFL in 2008.

Will North Shore rise again under Keasty?
Who knows with North Shore? Who can predict what they will do? Keast will bring back that North Shore spirit which they lacked last year. They have picked up Travis Robertson but have lost Ferguson and Chapman so nothing has drastically changed. Will be competing for that 4th and 5th place come finals time.

Can Newtown bounce back into the finals?
What they lacked last year was goal kickers. No-one could really kick a winning score for them against tougher opposition. With Jay Bett and Michael Bright returning, there is easily 100 goals but most importantly, they are two match winners. The loss of Harrington is filled by the signing of Jeremy Humm. Like North Shore, competing for that 4th or 5th place.

Who has been hurt the most by departures?
Refer to Question 3.

My Ladder prediction:
Sth Barwon
Colac
Bell Park
St. Joeys
Leopold

Newtown
North Shore
GWSP
St. Marys
Grovedale
Lara
St. Albans

(3rd to 8th - A dog fight!)

Wheres jimmy cail going?
Why would Grovedale be expected to finish above GWSP, StMarys and even Lara?GWSP and Lara will both improve a lot, while Marys have lost some very good players but have picked up a couple more than handy in return(Simon Fletcher, Andrew McClean). Grovedale has lost a lot of good players.

Whispers your post was fantastic thanks for the wonderful insight thats the **** we need and want to read on this thread.

Steven Cox has gone to Maroopna in the GVFL. Probably right about Grovedale actually. I forgot about Poon and the Bird brothers going to Torquay, along with Burrows and O'Brien. I do like the inclusions of Baars, Edwards, Taylor, Raidme and Pete Davenport. Considering they have lost a lot of key position players, i might place them between Lara and St. Marys.

Lara will improve a lot this year but not at the same rate as GWSP. Lara's biggest problem, as some has mentioned before, who will kick the goals? Sleeman down back will be handy but you don't win games by defending goals.

St. Mary's have lost too much. They may have good players but they will be filling in positions with players who aren't ready for seniors. Might get away with that in the GDFL, possibley BFL but not GFL.
