Went to the game with a Rugby League mate- his rhetorical question: what have those refereeing [sic] blokes got against Brisbane?

Having watched Nicholls in a few recent games, I'd have to say he has improved a great deal, but then again he had plenty of room to move.

When even Cometti is commenting on the poor umpiring, we have a problem.

Given that there were 19k at the ground - and a fair chunk were wearing blue and white - I couldn't help but be proud of the 'traditionally polite' Gabba crowd absolutely giving it to the jokes in yellow yesterday afternoon - particularly when they walked off the ground.

When the little old lady sitting two rows in front of me puts down her knitting and joins me in yelling to the umps to keep walking and preferably into traffic on Stanley Street, fair to say the Giesch has some explaining to do.

I'd love to see Vossy ask the question. You know it's not going to get you anywhere, and bad calls happen in every game, but when you have a game that bad against 1 team, you'd love to see the coach ask the question.

About seven minutes into the fourth, after the McKeever decision - listen to Lethal. He just exclaims, 'WHAT?!' before expressing his incredulity more eloquently.

Heard from a senior umpiring figure that they were also not happy with the umpiring. One of the offenders will stay on for the Collingwood/Suns game at Carrara, apparently. The hard calls are made in Melbourne though. All I know is the powers that be in Queensland were not impressed.

Also a trainer said it was the most parochial crowd she has ever heard in Brisbane. Good to see the passion is back, even if it takes a hammering by the umps to bring it out. One may have thought we were in the finals hunt.

Had a good laugh at that. The Patfull HTB is one of the most pathetic calls I've ever seen.

The Patfull decision was easily the worst decision made this year. I still find it hard believe an umpire at that level could make such a poor call.

...and yet allow Black's blatant throw (against North earlier this year) go without penalty.

One can only wonder how closely they actually watch game.

I am often miffed when I see so many forwards (not only our direct opponents on a given day), but in any games get such cheap frees, yet Browny is constantly mauled every week yet rarely gets frees for, but frees so regularly paid against him...its a joke I tell ya's.

Funny how none of this has come out in any of the articles I've seen from the game but...

Just watched Vossy's presser and he does get asked about the umpiring and here is the dialogue (from about 06:55 into the video):

Q: We wouldn't be forgiven by the Lions supporters if we didn't ask about the umpiring today in some respects. Did you feel there was a change of interpretation of the holding the ball rule today? (some words muffled by Vossy laughing painfully and rubbing his face in his hands) Because obviously the fans weren't happy, you obviously saw that.

A: It's hard going. As a losing coach you don't make excuses. But I tell you what when you've got 22 blokes who've gone to war we'll certainly be looking for some explanation. Absolutely. You know 22 blokes who've gone into war there they deserve an explanation surely.

<pause>

The advantage rule (looks to the heavens) they just need to get rid of it. It's gotta have another form.

Q: Are you talking about the one with Redden?

A: I can't remember each one but there's a few of them Hammo but I can't isolate them at the moment.

Q/Comment: It'd be expensive anyway.

A: Yeah I don't know if I want to be a pocket lighter.

Was quite dramatic how his body language changed. He went from being open and up front with his answers to holding back. You could see it in his immediate "laugh" (more like a grimace laugh) reaction and the shaking of his heads during answering. He was a frustrated man and obviously felt like he couldn't say what he wanted to say.

I've been appalled by the lack of comment in the articles I've read from Voss and the club re: the umpiring performance. Others have rightfully pointed out Longmire saying he'd be putting in a request for explanation.

Seems like Voss is just as unhappy and even talked about it in the presser but it just didn't make the news radars. Maybe there is hope of us asking a question via official means.

Just thought the hurt fans out there needed to hear that from the Coach.

Just watched the ruling on the "a" htb decision regarding Patfull in the last quarter......what a joke, where to begin

1. Not the HTB decision that had the fans upset. Refirst quarter

2. In the video you can clearly see the Lions player get a high fend off in the background...which was the (possible) reason Patfull made little attempt to hand pass, maybe he assumed the free was already going to the lions.

3. No other decision discussed WTF...

Pathetic. There's about five or so worse decisions than the one they picked if you ask me.

What also gets to me is the interpretation of the rules now means the best thing to do when you're tackled is to just drop the ball cold and that's just wrong.

The umpires seem to forget the incorrect disposal rule the vast majority of the time. As long as it keeps the play continuous, they don't give a stuff.

I have watched the Brown collision with Selwood getting the free kick just after it at least 300 times since Sunday and I still get angry talking about it... Please Vossy make a statement, this has gone on for too long!
Don't bother trying to put please explain involving Chris Judd, Joel Selwood or the Geelong Football Club. All three have their own set of rules. Especially the Cats who throw out their arms at every chance.

Why bother taking it to the AFL, you won't get far. They just want your money to get rich, and know matter how hard you try, they know you'll be back for more.Umpires do favour sides in the Top 8 and that is how it will always work.

I am finding the Geish's weekly defence of umpiring decisions to be really frustrating. He is obviously taking the approach of "If there is 1% chance that the umpire is right, then I'll support him". Razor's Ballantyne-Grundy free kick is an example. Hopefully, they are a little more critical behind closed doors but I question the utility in the Geish commenting on umpiring decisions if he only criticises the absolute howlers.

This was the first week I watched WYD? and I nearly headbutted my monitor. And I hadn't even got the the Patfull bit.

I expect he'll be on the phone again this week

Some very dodgy decisions against you guys in the last qtr. Appalling.
Hope it wasnt like that the whole game

Razor Ray is not one of the favourites from inside the fraternity...he is constantly seen as trying to impose himself on the game. Sam Newman may act the goat 90% of the time but when he talks pure football his insights are exceptional. One of his best is that Umpires should be seen and not heard. Razor Ray thinks that Punters cough up to see him perform each week.

On the flip side I recall us being on the right side of some dodgy calls when we were Kings of The Jungle. It just tends to play on your paranoia when you are struggling.
