Think Docs not far off down, he’s super slow and pretty injury prone at the moment (I realise he’s ill not injured this week)

On paper it’s a much stronger and probably more well balanced team. Keen to see Lobb, Naughty, Marra changes

Hopefully no McComb sub lol bloke suckssssssss

The omissions were necessary and hopefully JJ finds some touch at HB, would have liked to have seen Buku but we’re in a funny spot with the team and it’s hard to fit him, he’ll get his chance

Alex Keath survives. Goodness me. That was as bad a game as I've seen in the Red, White & Blue.

My biggest gripe with the team, and indeed much of Beveridge's last few years, is his tendency to frequently try to solve a whole range of problems by throwing more speed in the team, or lamenting a lack of speed on the list, etc.

I don't disagree that speed has been a problem for us at times, and early in the game the Saints did hurt us with that. But the more pressing issue was defensive intensity and pressure.

Now, don't get me wrong: neither of West and McLean had particularly good games. Duryea is sick so there's not much we can do there. But there are three players that were and do at least have a bit of a crack at the ball carrier.

To replace them with JJ and Treloar - both of whom have great strengths, but defensive intensity not being one of them - and Jones, who probably doesn't have the tank to make those repeat efforts all game yet, quite frankly terrifies me.

I suppose the counterargument is that we need a team-wide boost in the intensity levels, regardless of who comes in and goes out, which is fair. But I can't help looking at this team and thinking, gee, we have certainly gotten weaker in a facet of the game that has been pretty problematic the first two weeks.

West and McLean were both fairly average with their pressure acts

Can't agree.

Toby has offered nothing at all so far, and West has just given away free kicks and not really touched the ball.

Duryea isn't the same as 2 years ago

Honestly the more I look at the team, the more it’s clear why we are so bad defensively.

Daniel, Dale, Baz, Treloar, JJ, Lobb, JUH are all suspect defensively and that’s not including guys like Bruce, A Jones, Macrae, Baker etc. It’s a lot of holes to cover on one side of the ball.

Also the ins as players are fine in isolation but it is essentially bringing in 3 guys that were injured/underdone. You’d hope that they have 100% confidence in every single one.

The Lions small forward brigade scare me even more with Duryea out. We don’t have many that can lock down on them even if he was fit.

We have a few too many underdone throughout our 22 for my liking, the changes reek of desperation.

But never mind the changes, how about the no changes?

Can anyone explain why we have the exact same 4 field umpires as our very last game?

Statistically both were in the upper half of the team for pressure acts last I checked.

Besides, it isn't really the point: do you expect JJ and Treloar to exceed "fairly average"? I'm not sure I'd have a whole lot of confidence in that.

I'm not sure where in my post mentioned anything about (1) McLean/West/Duryea being good; OR (2) their disposal/free kick numbers.

They're not exactly providing much pressure.

One is providing nothing, another free kicks against, and the last not much either

Not sure we're losing much
