Great to see arty get his chance. I hope he has a great game. We need a few more changes as well. I wouldn't be upset if any of the following players were dropped Daniel, West, McLean, mccomb and baker from our 23 maybe even Smith. A stint in the seconds will do them good and the ones that survive need a big lift in performance.

Predicting Arty, JJ, Lobb and Gardiner (if he passed the training session well) as INs this week.

McLean, McComb, Darcy, and one other as the OUTs. With Bruce to be the swing man over Darcy.

What about when he gave away that 50m penalty because he wasn’t close enough to his man (because he lost concentration) running through the protected zone.

McLean gave away the 50-metre penalty, for not standing the mark as per the new rules this year...

You can clearly see Toby retreat after being called to stand...

Seeing McComb warm up on the bench the other night i didn't know whether to laugh or cry

I cried after his first act on the field was to run away from a bouncing ball that he was the closest player to, tried to shepherd (failed miserably) and another Saints player came in & took out Williams whilst another just got possession easily

The ump called stand whilst he was already moving backwards, the ump got it wrong.

Wouldn’t be an issue if we just stood the ****ing mark anyway, but I digress

Ah that’s right, I’d forgotten about that 😂

Knowing Bevo and how it treats the sub the week after Robbie will be starting 22 this week.

We’re still moving back, just not as much. We did it again the other night when a saints player had the ball about 60m from goal. Staggering.
The few times we've done it this year, its almost exclusively been in that area of the ground. Staggering indeed.

Just a small gripe about the fixture. Why are we playing off a 5 day break in round 3? It’s completely avoidable and just very poor planning this early in the season.
Wait till you find out that after round 4 we are only one of two sides disadvantaged by gather round, and straight after that have to fly to Perth.

We'll come out hot, I have no doubt in that. Real test will come when we have to maintain or handle the inevitable Lions run. I think back to that round 23 game v. Port.

G'day dogs fans

Pardon the intrusion. I thought the dogs were crazy good odds to win the flag pre season. I could see potential upside as well as downside. Seems like it is downside so far but clearly there is more potential in this side than the first 2 weeks.

As ever a side that gets smashed in the media and by its own supporters usually responds. We were an example in round 2. So i expect a very different dogs outfit tomorrow night. A debutant should get the energy levels up to.

Huge game for both sides. A dogs loss would make finals tough. A lions loss would make top 4 tough (collingwood next week). So we certainly have plenty of incentive.

DOGS should come out snarling, pardon the pun.

DOGS will likely go back to basics. Bruce forward. Gardner back. Macrae midfield. Do what they know best.

DOGS have not lost to the lions away from the gabba for many years - 2014 in fact.

LIONS do have a good record at docklands, having won i think our past 6.

LIONS have had an extra day's break, dogs playing Saturday which is a short turnaround. I don't think that's too bad so early in the season

DOGS could have some big inclusions, see if Lobb and Treloar come up.

LIONS have basically no injuries, only Darcy Gardiner not available. Dogs will have no Weightman and possibly a couple of others.

As for match-ups, Naughton has often given us problems - i think Payne might get him as he has been too fast for Andrews. Bont has also monstered us in the past and i'm hoping Berry will go to him.

Daniher looked in better form last week, would assume Liam Jones? Gunston hasn't done much yet, suspect would get Gardner. I can't see the dogs tagging anyone in the midfield.

ive also noticed that our players dont attack the contest as much as other teams, alot of guarding space and zoning, which i think is a legacy of the outside 5 tactic
I said this last year, at times we corrall rather than attacking the man on a loose ball. It’s an obvious directive, in theory it makes sense shut down the options, but this is AFL not under 12s, if you give a half decent player an inch of space they’re going to find a target. Pressure on the ball carrier wins out every day of the week, even if that means sometimes you over commit and they get it out and burn you.

At least they ****ing think twice next time because they know they’re likely going to get dropped if they take too long in possession. Teams play like millionaires against us because they know we won’t hurt them, it was laughable at times seeing blokes take marks in the middle of the ground last year and just take off because they know our player is going to run past them to guard space 5m in front anyway.

Whereas on the other side of the coin is us, who even when we have space shit the bed and turn it over because usually we get smashed within seconds of taking possession so there’s always inferred pressure even when there’s not.

You can’t instil a hands off, space guarding approach and mindset in some parts of the game and expect it not to leak into other parts of the game. I’ve never seen a football team so confused as to what’s required from them

In the presser, Beveridge refused to confirm the makeup of the team other than JUH will play (and Jones of course)
When was the last time (if ever) that we had three indigenous players in the side?

Round 17 2013 featured Koby Stevens, Brett Goodes and Liam Jones. That was the last time. That trio played a few over that same season together.

Round 7 2011 featured all 5 of Liam Jones, Brennan Stack, Lindsay Gilbee, Josh Hill and Zeph Skinner which I believe is the most we've had play together (Djerrkura also played games that season but the 6 never played in the same game).
