Unbelievable really. It was his birthday, give the guy a break. You'd think he stole a freddo frog or something.

Haha :thumbsu:

Wanted to drop in and see what you guys thought of this. Doesnt look good imo. Jeez weve all been out on the booze and even have the odd bender but ending up in the cells?? He must be unbeleivable undisciplined - its not like hes gonna walk into a decent job outside of footy.

The Saints leadership lads are not going to be impressed with this - I think he'll be out on his second strike.

what is it with afl footballers and getting arrested when drunk? can't they just booze up, spew ina bush and wake up somwhere strange like normal 20 something year olds?

Who are his "scaley mates"?

I think a few people would've had one (or two - tops ) too many on their birthday, but you'd like to think the people around you could get you home before you make an arse of yourself.

I hope this was a last bender before abstaining for the season, but not looking forward to the off-season next year with Lovett.

Interestingly the charge "Drunk" is different to "Drunk and Disorderly" and can be applied to anyone showing the effects of alcohol. However if there is no disorderly behaiviour, intoxicated people are often not bothered by the police.
Did they a) Find him passed out somewhere, and arrest him becasue of that.
b) Recognise him.
c) Not like the look of him.

Hands up if you've ever been drunk outside of a private residence

Pretty much everyone

Hands up if the coppers haven't even bothered to look at you becase you're not famous

Pretty much everyone

I rest my case.

Either way its bad.
Its worse when it happens to a new recruit who publicly announced he wants to revive his career at a new club.
Pull your head in Lovett.

Spot on saucey boy. I have partaken in many a big night but haven't even come close to getting locked up. I fail to understand how someone could be allowed to get to that level.

One of the staff from Essendon was on SEN this morning.
Apparently Lovett had all sorts of issues at one stage, and move in with him for a couple of days which became 6 months or something.
This guy was feeling pretty bad because he had actually talked to StKilda about him and said that he had sorted himself out.
When someone suggested that not enough people say no to Lovett ( stop him from doing stuff ) he said the problem is actually that Lovett is not good enough at saying no to his friends.

What is your case? Are you saying he was only arrested because he was "famous"??

No, we only hear about it because he is.

He was arrested for being drunk in a public place, common sense would dictate that he was thrown in the cells to sober up rather than continue celebrations and proceed to get even more inebriated considering the occasion. This could event merely becasue the cops offered him a ride back and he told them he wished to walk (in which case being intoxicated they owe a public service to getting him off the street for his safety and the safety of those in the area if he suddenly turns violent or destructive) to being a down right arseh*le and being disorderly. The information points to the former instead of the latter and thus the only issue is that he was out drinking.

Added to the fact that we had not yet started training as a group, where the hell do people get off screaming that this is culture, karma or we sucked the big one in taking the guy? He has not yet had single training session with the Saints or any of the boys when the incident took place. Yup, I can see how that is entirely our fault and our failing in not sorting him out when he was still on leave from transition from Essendon to St Kilda. Now that he's started training with us, you would largely expect that if he screws up from this point then it'll be cause for concern as it happened int he very least after he's taken to the training track instead of before.

But woah, look out and shout, Lovett and Gardiner at the same club, revisit the 80's people! Grab your tinfoil hats!

At least he wasn't driving his car, and the bloke on the radio this morning was well respected Essendon man John Quinn. Hes aboriginal, thats why they locked him up, if it was you or me who are white nothing would have happened.

its the off season...

as long as he didn't do any damage to himself or other people then its a nothing story really...big deal he got drunk on his birthday..it if was during the season then i would be concerned...

for now no big deal...

Yep agreed, but why would they arrest him though? It would have to more than the good old take off your pants, put them on your head running around playing indians ... I uh, I'd assume ...

haha just saw the link on the main page of "News.com.au" , entitiled "Lovetts Saints Career on Ropes" . ( Though the article itself dosn't have these words).
We just paid our first round pick for him, it would take a lot more than that for him not to have a career this year.:D

it's not really the kind of distraction you'd want leading into a run for the premiership, though, is it? sainters need to clamp down hard on this kind of crap like the cats did with steve johnson. come september, ross lyon wants to be talking about the team, not fielding questions about the leadership group having to address a loose cannon they have to waste resources babysitting.

I agree with our fine freo friend just above,

The Saints have to come down UBER HARD NOW, or else they will regret it.
