Luke Ball quits St Kilda

Gee and i thought that Holey Old Gumboot wouldve played seniors for Collingwood next year. Oh well fair trade...its a WIN/WIN for both clubs i guess.

Was told this yesterday by big footy user Cardio Carl, well done Carl. Who can we swap with Collingwood that is of the equal of Ball, slow, can't kick and won't chase?
Ross Lyon furious with his decision, ex Captain, B & F winner, reminds me of Leigh Colbert back dooring Geelong.

Oh FFS anyone but Collingwood. They have nothing that would satisfy us.

Im dissapointed, but its not about loyalty or money. He wants more game time, fair enough. I hope.

A fringe player at Collingwood wouldnt get a game at the Saints...Im glad he didnt win a flag with us, he will never win one now in his career...money over success, LOSER.

Gutted. Article confirming it (Saints website)...

Luke Ball seeks trade

St Kilda Football Club wishes to advise that Luke Ball informed Saints Senior Coach Ross Lyon late this afternoon that he would like to be traded and that Collingwood is his Club of choice.

Despite having a three year contract offer from the St Kilda Football Club since June, Luke has decided to pursue his career elsewhere.

St Kilda Senior Coach Ross Lyon said, “We are extremely disappointed that Luke has come to this decision. We were confident Luke would stay with the Club, as he has always been a required player.

However we will now do what is best for the St Kilda Football Club's interests and those of its members and supporters with the aim of completing an equitable trade for a person of Luke's calibre, leadership, playing honours and experience.”

Recruited from Xavier College/Sandringham U18, Luke Ball was drafted in the 2001 National AFL Draft priority selection (St Kilda) at No. 2 overall. He made his debut for the Club in 2003 and the 25 year old midfielder has since played 142 career games with the Saints. In 2005 Ball took his game to another level and was rewarded for his efforts, earning himself All-Australian honours and sharing the Club Best and Fairest award.

A courageous player and natural leader, Ball captained the side in 2006 and 2007 (co-captain) and was regarded by many as one of the Saints most fierce competitors. In 2009 Ball was ranked 14th in the AFL for total tackles and ranked 10th in the AFL for tackles per game.

Oh geez, well this sucks.. :(

Champion bloke and still has the potential to take the next step in his game. Not happy he's leaving but can't be too mad at him. He didn't receive the time he deserved.

I don't know anyone that will satisfy our trade from Collingwood directly. Personally I'd be looking at a 3 way deal to try and get one of Fev, Lovett or Burgoyne..

Very Disapointing, and thought he was great in the Prelim and GF.
Will be a loss and will be hard to replace.

I'm a fan of Luke Ball, but im not sure what his trade value is. Would pick #30 + a fringe player get the job done?
No way.

Ball >> McLean. None of your players would make much of an impact in our 22 besides Leon, which he's pretty much a flashy version of Milne. 1st round pick.

Gutted, why? Not loyal, can't kick, won't chase, will never be Chris Judd or Luke Hodge, overtaken by Dal, Jones, Joey, BJ with Jack Steven and Armo to do the same role with better skills. This could just save Armo from leaving for GC next year.
Unfortunately Ball has been shi t for 2 years now IMO, up there in frustration with Raph when he kicks. It was laughable that he couldnt hit targets at training even.
The Luke Ball of 2007, 8 and 9 is NO LOSS to St Kilda and may allow us to get a Lovett or Fevalenko into the club, look forwards and the reality is Ross Lyon has found his first quitter after his passionate My way or the highway speech post GF.

After the faith shown in him by the club to play him in our finals series on very inconsistent form, and the accolades he has received at the club, this is a very selfish and disgusting move from Luke Ball.

Let the door hit you on the way out, prick.

This would be a borderline sensible post if you spent the finals series in a mud hut in Lesotho. Assuming you didn't...
