Polar opposite of Jack Anthony - who is a great kick but bloody hopeless at getting it.
If Jack was hopeless in getting it, he wouldn't have finished 6th in contested marks in the AFL last year.

He's just come off a big fat pay cheque hasn't he?.....sad, but at least he will now get a big fat pay cheque each week, and he will again be regarded as a hero, so he will be happy.
Two kids who may or may not develop and who may or may not have injuries. I thought they both showed a bit. Not as much as Ball at a similar stage but there is some talent there. I like a couple of the talls too.But for the future:
Jack Steven>Armitage>>>Ball.....
Because there are just so many in the way the game is played today... What a stupid arguement. An average of 6 kicks and 5 marks from Anthony last year... (the same as Tippett). Key fowards make the most of the possessions they get, however they don't get a hell of a lot of the ball. When they do, it is gold, which was the point. If Jack was hopeless in getting it, he wouldn't have finished 6th in contested marks in the AFL last year.

Armitage quite a way in front of Steven at this stage and for the future IMO.When the real games start & the pace hots up, don't look for Luke to help on the defensive side of the game. Was potentially a very good player when he started, but will be a GOP these days.....sad, but at least he will now get a big fat pay cheque each week, and he will again be regarded as a hero, so he will be happy.

Who cares really.
Collingwood had a good hitout in a practice match against a quailty opponent, and incurred no injuries.
Ball and Jolly both played pretty well and added a bit to the Pies line-up that they didnt have last year. Thats all we need to know at this stage.
I think he will do the job he was recruited for. I never thought he would be a 40 possession game winner elite star. Just a bard honest player which is what collingwood need.
Exactly. he will defo be an asset. I mean shit how many small goal kickers does collingwood need?? Not his job to kick goals just to get the ball. Which he'll do.
Id say its win win but really we didnt get anything for him so ....
Still Armitage and Steven could've fallen away and then we'd be screwed forutnetly they look good.
meh........I saw a near full strenght Pies outfit blown away by kids (oh and N Riewoldt..) with not much left in the tank for when the real stuff starts......
I laughed.Who cares really.
Blown away by a point after your opponents wasted seven extra shots on goal.
Ok then. Well done on that.
LOL. And to think you probably believe you don't care.Personally, I dont,. It was a NAB Cup, ffs. He didnt make an idiot of himself and he racked up a few stats. (His goals per game average is already superior at Collingwood than it was at StKilda!!!) Thats all you need to do in the preseason.
Seriously, it was a bloody practice match. The best thing about Friday night's game is that he's got the StKilda game out of the way and both sides can move on.
If there's any player I'd love to see win it, it's Luke Ball.
LOL. And to think you probably believe you don't care.

Personally I reckon it was embarrassing how Collingwood (coaches, players, supporters) attempted to use this game to further the pissing contest. The reaction to Ball was quite pathetic - even more when a full strength team loses to a team playing a practice match.
Lets see how Ball and his new team-mates stand up when the pressure is actually on. Recent history indicates both Ball and his new team-mates will go missing.
Recent history suggests there is a trend of wasting shots against the Saints.
You're about the result, one way or the other it didn't really matter, what did matter were the intangibles such as game plan. The pies seem to have added 2 new players to the existing game plan resulting in shots from the boundary line. I did have a chuckle to myself when Sam Fisher ran unmolested into the forward line to assist with 2 of the last 3 Saints goals, though in fairness Leigh Brown seemed to be doing the same in our forward line most of the night.
It was a good hit out and Ball should allow Pendles more outside space and Jolly should allow Fraser to at worst act as a forward line decoy.
As mentioned elsewhere Cloke was a highlight, if he could limit himself to avoid taking marks on the boundary and visualise a target 55m through the goals he will be in for a big season.
Point? This quote was made a night before last years grand final when talking about who is going to win the norm smith
a full strength team
practice match
you mean like how ball went missing in last year's grand final? oh wait, how many possies was it in about 50% of game time? or like how coll went missing in the semi final v crows when they were 5 goals down in a low scoring affair? oh hang on......just ridiculous unfounded comments
if anyone went missing when the pressure was on last year it was the saints as a whole on GF day. every chance to win it but floundered in the last quarter when the kitchen was at its hottest
