I still don't understand why the Dogs thought they needed Lobb?

Lobb has successfully conned three clubs now.

His Manager must be one heck of a salesman.
I wasn't exactly enthusiastic about recruiting him, but we needed ruck support for English from someone not named Schache, Young or Cordy. He's on track for a 25 goal season, which is about all we needed from him. He's far from the issue with the club - check out who our forwards coach is, and then look at the "Expected Score" metric for the last two games (spoiler - we "won" on expected score, meaning our forwards were inefficient) as well as inside 50 count and number of scoring shots compared to our opponents.

Umpires starting to crack down on the Dog Throw how Bevo responds now that his no1 tactic has been taken away will determine his fate

That’s true … now the Dogs are getting umpired fairly they are struggling a bit more. Their free kicks for/against every season since 2016 is off the charts positive. What happened to them last night in regards to being on the receiving end of the balance of umpiring is what many teams cop nearly every week…. They are just not used to it.

He took his own team to three grand finals so he clearly knows how to get the best out of a list.

You look at the forward line. Such talent with Ugle-Hagan, Naughton, Weightman. The midfield led by arguably the best ruck in the competition, just the same old, same old from the Dogs ever since 2016.

True … that was a shocking loss last night against a team missing their entire first choice midfield. Soft underbelly for 7-years at the Dogs.

Lobb might have underachieved but he had his moments at GWS and Freo.

But he's 30. He was never going to get any better.

Do find it funny how people talk about the great season English is having but then talk trash about Lobb. He’s been crucial in allowing Tim to get behind the play for his intercept marking and kicks a goal a game himself. Nobody was expecting him to suddenly win a Coleman, he’s playing his role fine

Let’s be honest though. Bevo had a falling out with Dalrymple (our gun recruiting manager) who has gone to sydney and continued to find guns. That issue has caused the very problem Bevo now finds himself in. Should have stuck to coaching and stayed the * out of list management. He is still sitting in the trade room in November fighting for a 4th round pick we won’t use…

* him off and use some of his coin to entice Dal back home.
When did Dalrympel leave?

The WB were never that good. They won a flag through anomalous means when they finished 7th. The umpiring in the GF was disgraceful. It’s been referenced so frequently that their drop off from 2017 onwards looks about par for them. Let’s face it, they were a 7th placed side that didn’t get a lot better. Had a good run in 2021 but were beyond embarrassed in the GF.

Got some gun players; smith, Naughton, English, JUH and Darcy might come good and obviously look good. Weightman will be a player if he stops trying it on for free kicks. Jones, Richards, Bontempelli, Daniel are all good players. I’d actually not be surprised if they made some big list calls at year end and climbed up into contention next year. You’ve e got to keep an eye on the sides that are sort of thereabouts.

I’ve been bullish on Port this year to either make or win a flag. I was the same with the Eagles in 18. If the WB get their act together then they might be a chance in 2024 to go all the way.

We were heavily in front of the free kick count last year and we were 6-6 at this time last year and in 8th-9th spot.

Forward 12 months and we are, as you say “getting umpired fairly” and are 7-5 and a game outside the top 4.

Winning wise and statistically, we are a better side right now than what we were last year when you tin foilers were thinking that the afl were cheating for us to win.

Do you check these things before posting?

Not sure if I'm impressed with what he's achieved or terribly underwhelmed. The media are clearly scared of him as there is bugger all heat on him.

If he doesn’t make top4 this year, we should be parting ways. But we won’t, because we’re too gutless as a board to make big decisions. I’m still very bullish on the season but few things need tweaking. He was copping heat before the season and when we were 0-2 but lose against port and I’d say more will come.

It’s not smart to sack coaches if you don’t have a viable replacement. Hinkley has survived for years. You’d have to have Hardwick saying he was good to go in 2024 and signed before you sacked Beveridge.

I think there’s a few good ones up and coming - Hansen, Gia, Graham.

If not a new senior coach, then we desperately need someone who can overhaul our forward structure.

Your forward line is dependant on JUH and Darcy. Both are very long term options. Lobb for the meantime is important. It’ll be a while before your forward line is potent.

It’s not about potency. We def have the talent and marking power there. It’s our slow forward entries, multiple forwards flying for the same ball, lack of separation on a lead and lack of movement. Lack of cohesion.
Our deplorable goal kicking also doesn’t help.

Exactly the same issue as Melbourne.
