Bevvo and the dogs are in honeymoon mode (cant get enough of each other) but a bit of burn out or hitting a brick wall is still possible, start of the year 6 wins may have been enough for par now 10-12 is very gettable. good on you dogs.

As a McCartney apologist, its time you admit, my criticism of him has been vindicated.

I know you didn't like McCartney but hardly any of your arguments were centred on him.

Credit though, he wasn't going to take the group further and was ripping it apart.

People are talking like the Doggies were absolute spuds last year. They had 7 wins and a % of 82, suggesting they were more than competitive.

Natural development of a young side was always likely to see them improve again to be knocking on the door of the 8.

Their performance so far was been ahead of expectations, but not ridiculously so.

Same could be said of Gold Coast.

How are they travelling?

McCartney certainly instilled a lot of the basics.
And credit to whoever it was at the Dogs (Gordon/McCartney?) who got their reserves team set up so well with good experienced player help which went a long way to making them successful in the VFL.
Maybe McCartney was silly to hold them back but I think Talia and Jong are 2 huge ins who actually benefited from so much time in a success reserves side.

Beveridge sure has brought brilliant attacking flair to the ball movement. Their ability to still compete in contested ball despite such a young midfield which is also playing free flowing footy is amazing.

I thought Adelaide with Jacobs v Cordy, Dangerfield, Sloane, Thompson, Douglas etc would physically out do the young dogs mids. But they couldn't force that kind of game at all.

Looks to me that all the selfish players have been weeded out and are still being weeded out. I recon Minson, as good as he has been, may look to work harder and to improve his attitude, work rate and team work aspects - not saying they were terrible but he was dropped for a reason and all improvement is good improvement.

Liberatore, Bontempelli, Macrae, Wallis, Dahlhaus is the foundations of a very good midfield

Is Stringer going through the midfield or is he permanent forward? Didn't see today's game but saw the highlights on afl.com and played forward today.

Also, how long does Boyd have left in him?

They have the makings of a very good team. Boyd is still at least two - three years from developing into a gun KPF. The mids by then will all be around the 100 game mark. Makes for exciting times at the Doggies.

I think the plan is for Stringer to play predominately forward and have 30% game time in the middle. Wouldn't be taking him anywhere further than 50m from goal though. Boyd deeper and Stringer roaming around 30 - 50 out could be the one-two punch to take us to the promised land. If they can't then no one will.

And to think we could have signed him when we chose to sign the angry dwarf.

sigh

I didn't think Beveridge was even in the mix for our coaching job when Watters was appointed but we did appoint him as a senior assistant to Richardson this year until the Dogs poached him.

Anyway Richardson had us flying at about this stage last season after wins over Melbourne, GWS and Essendon. Everyone was hailing him as the new coaching messiah but then injuries hit us hard and the wheels fell off with only one more win for the season so a bit early to be hailing Beveridge as the new coaching messiah.

The string dog is playing forward for now, because of Boyd and Crameri in our forward line, Stringer usually gets the number 3, or perhaps number 2 defender, this makes him very very dangerous, if he gets the number one defender, then you can pretty much pencil in boyd for a 10 goal haul. he is simpy too big and too good even now as young as he is. It will take boyd at least 2 years to come into his own, but even as of now, if he brings the umps attention to the way he has been held, and hung off in these 4 rounds, it's just crazy he hasn't been given more frees. Just his size intimidates opposition defenders regardless of his actual afl games tally.

Stringer was supposed to be gradually moved more into the midfield as he built up his tank, but he is clearly an asset up forward, and given that players like Jong are seriously stepping up, we may not need to even go there anymore. Moving him into the mid was Maccas plan, but Bevo has different ideas, so who knows. I guess we bulldogs fans should be pretty happy with this puzzle, nothing like having too many good players you don't know where to fit them all in.

Seems very similar to the Brad Johnson conundrum of a few years back. Forward v Mid? Either way looks to be a gun.

And to think your #1 midfielder is out for the year.

Looking good for the doggies.

Macca should always get some credit for development. But the drink has the tactical insight and system structures that has got us to a great start.

Yeah I agree. Macca should retain his coaching credibility despite the falling out with players that forced the clubs hand.

He upset players but for me, was not sacked because he failed as a coach and should be considered for future jobs.

Beveridge is doing a good job but Macca has left him some good grounding to work on.
