Thats the nature of the beast with the All Austrlian team though isnt it. His second half was better then his first no doubt, but Cooney's first half was far better then his second half, Bartels second half was much better then his first half of the season. Harley was average all season

I said that this helped his AA selection about 10 pages ago and all of the Hawks supporters got stuck into me.

Why the Hodge bashing Carlton Supporters?
Of late there have been so many threads by Carlton supporters trolling Hodge its unbelievble
In a nutshell they have been make a shit like 'Hodge only gets handball receives', hes 'just a loose man in defense' and that he struggles in big games'. An its really pissing me off
So let me lay down some facts

So let me lay down some facts
- Hodge was the number one midfeilder in the league for contested marks with 18
- In the 18 H&A games he played he scored 19 goals. That more than 1 goal a game!! (so for a loose defender thats alright)
- In the 3 of the 4 finals Hawthorn has played in the past two years he has been in the top 3 in 3 of them (so the comments about him not performing in big matches is absolute crap)
- He is also one of the most effective kicks in the league with an 85% kicking efficiency

kicking eficiency is a very misleading stat. it more implies that a player is unimaginative and his disposals are rubbish chipping around in the back half types of zero pressure disposals. when the pressure is on, (like last minute in a top of the table clash) that real disposal efficiency comes to the fore.
hodge was not number one midfielder for contested marks, in fact he is not even a midfielder, he is hbf or hff but mostly the former, he is a very good mark, much in the way tom harley is an excellent mark. in fact they play pretty much the same role.
with all that said hodge is an excellent player and if he lost a bit of weight could make that next step to elite status.

It's that old Hodge vs Judd thing. When Judd won his Brownlow in 2004, people laughed at Hawthorn for drafting Hodge with the number 1 pick.
Now that Juddie is a "born and bred" Navy Blue, some of the Carlton dinguses think it's funny to stir up a stupid argument from five years ago. These bandwagon Blues fans don't realise what knobs they sound like when they compare their balding, mercenary skipper to the Hawthorn champion. In any case, the argument got old very quickly and it is even less relevant now, given that most people acknowledge that Hawthorn made a good choice back in the 2001 Draft.
Drafting Hodge at number 1 was not a mistake. A drafting mistake is to choose someone like Luke Livingston with a top 3 pick.

If you are taking Bay13 into account, don't, because most stuff there should be taken with a grain of salt. However, if anyone seriously believes Hodge is a shit player then they really shouldn't be taken seriously when it comes to footy topics.

Not sure why the blues dudes are jumping in.
But... the handball receive is one of Hodges biggest weapons. So don't say he doesnt get them. (ablett does too ! ) In a conjested area he normally dishes off, runs through the pack and gets his handball recieve. This gives him the space to launch clear kicks which are usually effective.
Cats just need to be wary of the old 'one, two' this weekend. That will lessen his impact.

But people who don't watch the Hawks every week just see the AA team and think Hodge must have played there for the whole season.
