He's a beaut alright. Brownlow a strong chance I reckon, he's stood out in every Hawks game I've seen this year.

Love how he plays so straight and direct. Grab it in the centre and bang it into the goalsquare. The forwards must be eating it up.

Hawks fans may be able to confirm - wasn't he in a draft with Ball and Judd, and everyone was thinking, well it's turned out better for St Kilda and WCE. How things can change.

Joel Selwood>Luke Hodge

Next....

Next year when Joel Selwood gets tagged every week, we will see how good he is. He's awesome but im interested to see how a player of his physical limitations (height, speed) goes against a run with player. That said, Hodge does struggle with a tag as well, though he has the ability to go forward or back and still have a big impact on the game.
Guys like Judd, Ablett and Swan (YES SWAN DOES GET TAGGED!!!) have the ability to beat a tag one on one because of their brilliant pace. But this year, Hodge is the number one player in the competition, if anyone but Swan or Ablett beat him in the Brownlow it will be robbery.

SCARY= Hodge in the Geelong midfield....Swap Selwood with Hodge and the Hawks are a lot worse off.

2 horse race for the Brownlow - Hodge v Swan.

Will go down to the wire..

Wouldn't surprise me if Chapman polls well this year. I'd say Hodge will win it though.

Would've hated to be an Under 18 coach in 2001. Imagine coming up against a Geelong Falcons midfield containing Hodge, Ablett and Bartel. Who would you tag?

Considring both have moved on its a clear win to hawthorn regardless of other factors

individual performances are really down on last years standards imo

don't get me wrong, hodge has been great, but if he played like this last year you'd have ablett, brown, riewoldt, judd and hayes ahead of him

lake is really the only player who is playing as well as the best at his position played last year so i'd probably give him the mvp

Probably the wrong spot and may be deserves it's own thread, but surely Lake sits comfortably within the top 5 players in the competition right now. He's practically unstoppable and impregnable force down back. His impact on matches is surely matching all mentioned in this thread (Hodge, Selwood, GAJ, Swan) this year.

It's actually the other way round.

Ablett is averaging more goals and the same possessions as last year, but is so far behind Hodge that he might as well be ineligible.

Greater performances have put the likes of Ablett in the shade.

The only challenger from 2009 would be Riewoldt.

Def not. Really good teams who will poll big number (Saints and Geel) could easily have a player already on 20 votes. Montagna, Goddard, Hayes, Dal Santo could all be on 10 or one could be 20. Like Ablett/Selwood. You never know with umps.

Re Hodge = Awesome. Along with Pav, Hayes, Swan, Judd, Roo, Browny, Buddy, Lake up in the highest of elite brackets.
did you deliberately leave Ablett out? Sure he is not as consistant as last year, but to say the last 3 MVP winner is not up with the elite is quite an oversight. he is having a better season than most of that list

He touched up clint jones friday nite and he is considered 1 of the best in the business, is getting much better at coping with tags because of his better fitness and endurance, this has been his 1 weakness in his career and he has now got it right up which is allowing him to run out games better and have a better chance to burn off taggers. Swan would struggle imo if a tagger had elite running capacity such as himself, chance bateman has got himself back to 08 form with a different role the last 6 or so weeks doing jobs on good players (montagna and dal santo friday nite) and has the running capacity and the speed to match swan. Agree with your last point, hodgey was brilliant when we were losing at the start of the year, had we won more games he would be so far in front in the charlie you may as well forget about betting on it. Clearly the number 1 player in the comp this yr and arguably overall the best.

If Hodge is at 7 votes by round 7 i would expect him to get to 30 votes by years end (barring injury).

Is an unbelievable sportsman, leader, midfielder, backman, and person.

Shows humility to opposition and umpires, and can light a fire up the ass of anyone. You'd follow him to war if your entire arsenal was him, a toothpick and a draw four Uno card.

Massive man crush, and i wouldnt swap him for anyone, ever.

hawks fans have to make everything about cyril

You're the only one to mention him Bong, after your buddy tried to introduce Selwood to the conversation.

Goddard, Hodge, Swan, Chapman, Selwood, Lake. You shouldn't undersell the perfomance of these players because lovechild Ablett has dropped off a bit, they've all been exceptional and as good as other years players. Or do we ignore Reiwoldts 09 because Franklins 08 was better, ignore Bartel's 07 because Kouta's 00 was better etc?

he said head duck, it's natural to assume he was talking about cyril

on hodge, maybe it's just because of his two poor performances against geelong that i'm underselling him?

that said, he has struggled against a hard tag, even this year

welsh x2, ling x2 and smith toweling him up raise a few question marks over his season for mine

Get your hand off it. Welsh and Ling towelled him up once. The second game against Essendon he was injured, the second game against Geelong he beat Ling. He had 20 (influential) disposals, was very influential toward the end of the game. If you think the ugly ranga can justify his existence on an AFL list on stopping Hodge from getting 10 disposals, you have no idea.
Fair to say Hodgey is now breaking tags, like on Friday night against one of the best in Jones.

i'm not sure what game you were watching, but hodge wasn't influential at all against geelong

and don't play the injury card, that's just ridiculous

he copped a little knock early on and then pulled out the losers limp

It was me after quoting a Geelong noob talking about Selwood. Your attempts to be witty are pathetic.

Yeah like how Ablett was poor in 09 because Shirley towelled him up?

Ling hasn't nearly towelled Hodge up this year, he wasn't BOG in those games but that doesn't mean he was towelled up, and certainly doesn't mean he was poor ffs. I'd say Welsh and Smith got him and that's it this year.

Don't get drawn into the twisted world of this bong rips douche bag. As somebody pointed out earlier, he gives cats supporters a bad rep. Let him rip on hodge all he wants, he's just diminishing his already non-existent credibility.

Hawthorn supporters got a question for you?

Why do you bother responding to BONG RIPS MKII at all?

He/She/It posts more about Hawthorn than Geelong and all of it negative.. I really don't understand why you feel the need to feed the troll as he clearly doesn't have a balanced opinion about Hawthorn...

Losers limp.....

Norm Smith 2008 with broken ribs doesn't ring any bells?

Thought you'd still have nightmares about that one.
