Watching todays GF, makes it even more obvious we need a player of Jackson’s capabilities. No brainer.
I agree, Hickey is a good player but Stanley and Blicavs well…. blitzed him. Big bodied, mobile, just moving the ball forward to Danger.
They ended up dominating everywhere but as usual it was initially won and lost in the middle and in contests, particularly aerially.
We are undersized physically and in the air and it was shown up in the Pies game.
Im happy to bring in Jackson but develop him as a Blicavs ruckrover type, not as permanent tall forward solution.

Yes agree & additionally we we’re far too predictable with Darcy & teams worked out how to nullify his game. Jacksons offers unpredictability in many different roles including ruck & the way Geelong were able to use a very average player in Stanley along with the mobility of Blisavs was a pleasure to watch.
Melborne really did not use Jackson to his full potential.

Agree. Blicavs was a massive influence and Jackson can play a similar role for us, although he‘ll need to work hard on his aerobic capacity.

My concern over Jackson was the draft cost. To a lesser extent his form of late, whether we were paying too much in terms of picks\contract.

But now with the players wanting out we could still have reasonable draft picks and not a Eagles\Kelly scenario.

The Eagles and Kelly scenario really happened at the worst possible time for them, just before a rebuild.

We had Johnson, Erasmus, Amiss, Treacy, etc running around at Peel this year. Picks aren't really a priority, we need players that will walk straight into our best 18.

Even if the eagles were in a rebuild, has anyone told the coach?
I suspect they think they are closer to the Cats playing list, and
this year was just a blip on the radar.
As for playing style they just got over a Buckley Pies gameplan in 2018.
The game has changed so dramatically, it’s like watching Ross Lyon trying to
reinvent himself.
WC would want Jackson to emulate NN, and who needs that much pressure and
without backup?
Freo are going places, even with the list changes. WC are still in denial.
Besides the cash what else do they have to offer?

They have cash to offer? I thought their salary cap was ****ed.

Not sure they’re as ****ed as we hope tbh. If they can recruit well over the next two drafts, whilst getting rid of the bad contracts they’ll bounce reasonably quickly imo. That won’t get them Jackson though.

Having said that them bouncing quickly probably isn’t a great strategy for them. They’ll still have McGovern, Darling, Gaff, Cripps, Kelly, Yeo etc. in their early 30s but I’m not sure these guys with stay good long enough to compete for a flag. They could sneak into the eight with this mob before falling back down again when all these guys go within 2-3 years of each other.

Well seeing “journeyman” Hickey squib it hard in the GF and become a liability renewed my belief in the importance of a quality ruckman. So I’m back on the Jackson train.

Could put Jackson on a whopper deal.
