Pick 13 you say?

I think everyone involved has been on the same page for the last few months. The "nominating WA" thing was just a way for all involved to save face publicly given he's a high draft pick returning after only 3 years.I’m starting to get the feeling that Jackson didn’t even have to nominate a club, I’d say the conversations with both WC & Freo were had before he told Melbourne he wanted to come home & he knew WC weren’t an option.
Additionally it wouldn’t surprise me if WC got the hint not to bother.
Surely the absence of WC interest is a positive for us?I think everyone involved has been on the same page for the last few months. The "nominating WA" thing was just a way for all involved to save face publicly given he's a high draft pick returning after only 3 years.
I've never really put much stock in that anyway since I've been spruiking Jackson to Freo for like a year. We dont have a leg to stand on given what we are paying him (800k for 5 years), his draft pick and his performance to date (even as disappointing as his last 2 months were). Like us with Kelly, everyone was just playing silly buggers knowing Jackson was always joining Freo.Surely the absence of WC interest is a positive for us?
Is the 800k for 5 rock solid? I had a chat with someone relatively high up at the club (not sure how the sauce game works on BF...) in August and they were adamant that the club wouldn't be giving LJ what they described as "silly money". The 500-600k range was bandied about.I've never really put much stock in that anyway since I've been spruiking Jackson to Freo for like a year. It was always costing two firsts with where we finished. Maybe with the players leaving this year we could keep a future 1st but I getting Jackson done makes sense for us to make sure Lobb cant be used as a chip in the Jackson trade. Once this gets done early, the ONLY reason Lobb gets to the Dogs is if the Dogs pay something egregious.
I dont think we could get away with 500-600k, even if that's closer to actual current output. Admittedly this person would not be in the room when the deal is being done so it's definitely not rock solid.

The Jake Lever that Melbourne fans have mentioned a few times is probably the most applicable which was approx:I personally don't think his salary means all that much. Logue would be getting paid about the same, has the PSD threat (which is still essentially the same for Jackson, even if we don't get him), and we look like getting a 2nd round pick at best.
Not saying we won't give up 13 + F1, but if you weigh up what uncontracted players have been traded for in the past, it really should only cost something like 13 + Logue. Which is still a big price.
There's no good reason Jackson should cost a heap more than the likes of Dunkley, Taranto and Hopper. Or what we would have received if Darcy had asked for a trade instead of signing an extension, which would have been something like Geelong's first (i.e. late first) rounder at best.
I've got a bit of a feeling that if we want to try keep our future first Jackson will basically cost us Logue + Lobb + Acres + pick 13.
Future 2nd for Logue
Future 3rd for Acres
Future 2nd + Lobb for Pick 15
15 + 13 + future 3rd for Jackson + change
How'd we feel about that? Jackson would need to be a generational talent for that to be worthwhile. I'm pretty nervous about this one.
Financially you are correct. However, if he happened to know someone named.... Dale Allween, who happened to have significant financial capital and connections to provide a lavish and easy transition for Luke to W.A. with an UNBELIEVABLE real estate offer purely from Dale's blessed heart....I dont think we could get away with 500-600k, even if that's closer to actual current output. The 29 jumper is as good as his then!Could be an absolute cult hero or a complete failure and destroy this club.
No inbetweenies.
Saw a funny story about that number 29 today. The 2016 draftees were given a choice of their number and Cox immediately claimed 29 without knowing the significance behind it. Bondy was having none of that so instead allocated the guys their numbers based on draft order instead and made sure 29 was left alone. The 29 jumper is as good as his then!
