We are taking the piss if they both stay captains next year
Yeah look, I'm uneasy about some of the more radical ideas in this thread, but you're spot on with that. They both, at minimum, have some form and/or positional issues they need to work through. That's before even looking at their leadership. I could cop Jy being co-captain with someone else (and there are options!), maaaaybe even solo captain, but the idea of a third year of Silver and Jy together makes me shudder in dread.

What are the radical ideas? We've traded in a bloke with more experience than anyone on our list, that has captained a successful team and commands respect.

You can't have Parker as captain next year.

Im sure he'd refuse it anyway.

He doesn't know the playing group, he doesn't know the club.

As good as he's been, he's in his 30's, he needs to earn the respect of his team mates at training and on the field. It is irrelevant what he did 10 years ago for Sydney in terms of that aspect. He will of course demand initial respect because of his playing career, but if he is over the hill very quickly, he shouldn't be captain.

It would have been akin to making Liam Shiels captain (not saying Parker is that cooked yet, but he needs to prove it).

Im sure he will be in the leadership group.

Personally, if it was a coaching decision, I would make Sheez the captain. He's an not a normal 20 year old.

I'd have Xerri and Chom as his Vice Captains, with Parker and Larkey the other two in the leadership group.

Certainly not the way I see it. Harry's definitely wired differently but I don't think he'd be ready yet. Luke Parker doesn't need to earn anyone's respect in the north playing group, we've had Jy Simpkin, McDonald and a cooked Ziebell captain us to being the laughing stock of Australian sport. I would think most of the group would welcome the change.

Moving to North in 1973 under the VFL's short-lived "10-year rule", which allowed players with ten years' service at one club to move to another club without a clearance,[3] Davis won North Melbourne's best and fairest in his first year at North. He went on to captain the Roos' first-ever premiership side in 1975, his final VFL season. He had played 71 games and kicked 54 goals for North before retiring. He was also named in North Melbourne's Team of the Century.[4]

Why is the captaincy even a question? It is not like we haven't done it before.

If he is the best man for the job, he gets made captain. And if the others don't like it, the Magoos are always looking for players that don't want to be in the same team.

Barry Davis says hello.

Luke Parker needs to earn the respect of our playing group?

More like our playing group needs to earn the respect of Luke Parker.

Parker can "earn the respect of the playing group" whilst he has a (C) next to his name.

Our leaders are up there with the worst performed teams of the last 100 years, the playing group needs a reality check and that can start with our leaders.

Eventually you have to take responsibility for your own performance and being borderline 22, with 1 finals appearance between the two of you says it all.

Send a message Clarko.

This

We all know Harry will be our future captain and i don't want him learning of bloody Lmac or Jy

We only have Parker for a short time, let’s not **** this up.

Barry also won the B&F in 1975, our Premiership year and his last one.

Caleb Daniel spoke of Clarkson telling him one of the reasons he'd like him at North is to provide leadership. Darling said similar and no doubt Parker will too.

Its not hard to read between the lines and see that the current appointed leaders have been deemed inadequate.

Therefore upsetting the apple cart isn't a major consideration.

Hell, make Parker captain and Daniel vice if you want. Our repeated ability to piss up winning positions is an indictment on every long term leader at this club for the last 10 years, excepting Andrew Swallow.

It's time to turn this football club around. We have finally got rid of players who don't put in the work or are just shit humans.
We now need to change the leadership and set better standards.
Parker needs to be captain! I don't buy into this garbage about he needs to earn respect of the player group blah blah blah. The entire football community already respects him.

Id have Parker as captain, Sheezel as vice, Daniel, Larkey, Simpkin & Darling as the leadership group.
Get rid of this popularity vote as who should be captain, Clarko needs to put his foot down and take control.

Things are a little bit different since Barry Davis came across.

Not saying I think LP shouldn't get it, btw. But to dismiss someone's reasoning because a guy 51 years ago did it successfully means ignoring a lot of changes in how people interact since then.

Don't agree or disagree re: Parker as potential (c).

But IMO pointing to 1973 and Davis as precedent doesn't really work in 2024.
So much has changed since, players have become professionally paid athletes, not part timers for starters.
The system and clubs have evolved massively.
I think it would be a far bigger deal than Davis coming across and grabbing the (C), for a player to do it today.

Don't think the "instant captain" thing is any bigger a deal in 2024 than 1973.

It's not like we're talking about some archaic, outdated hazing practice like shaving a shy teenager's hair off when they join the club, like we'd have done in 2002.
Of course, we wouldn’t want to upset the high performance culture we have witnessed on field overseen by our much vaunted captains.

Sit quietly at the back Luke and STFU.
