I've got high hopes for Pedlar, I really like what he brings as a player. But I also can't say that i'm without any doubts...

Still being seemingly unable to play a game of midfield in the 2's is hugely concerning. Especially when guys like Soligo and Taylor came in right away and are able to accomplish it. Feel like there is something they are not telling us with Ped's.
Feedback at the start of the year (from a guy who went fishing with Tex) was that the club thought Pedlar was going to be great, but his body still wasn't right (yet). For mine he looks best on ground for moments in the SANFL, just not for extended periods.

Tex also said that Fog was going to come good, which seems on the money.

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that it wouldn't surprise me if they needed to reset Pedlar's muscular foundation to reduce the injuries. Similar to what they said they did with Seedsman a few years back. At his age it wouldn't surprise me if doing something like this would set him back at least 12 months.

Then burgess is the one. Needs a strong injury free preseason

How do you reset that?

I dont really know. I just remember Seedsman saying in an interview that they had to do it for him to try and stop his soft tissue injuries. I would imagine a program like that would require a lot of joint re-inforcement through strengthening stabiliser muscles, and a big emphasis on flexibility. Also probably some key functional movement training.

But that's just me guessing. Undoubtedly theres way more too it.

He had barely played in his junior year before being drafted

So it’s at least 3 years straight now he’s not got his body right

By my count this makes the 4th straight year of an injury interrupted season. My thoughts preseason.

I would love it if you are correct. I did not see him live in 2021, but nor have I knocked his talent.

My concerns are purely based around his durability and I think they are valid. I am not saying he has no chance of overcoming them either, just at this stage of the game its a worry.

The fact remains that he has now had 3 consecutive injury ridden seasons, with 2 Shoulder reconstructions.

Joel Selwood is an absolutely terrible example. Sure he had some knee concerns that might have dropped him down one or two spots in the draft, but he came right in and played 21 games in his first year (in a premiership team no less).

Thats the difference. Pedlar had an injury interrupted 2019 and 2020. Then once drafted he had injury issues all preseason. Played some games before having a season ending injury and then on top of that getting a 2nd should reconstruction.

Although player comparisons in these situations are never perfect, I would say a far better comp than Selwood would be Troy Menzel. Both talented, but injury concerns lead them to slip to pick 11.

Very important preseason coming up for Pedlar, as really needs to get consistently on the park in 2023... because he is of very little use on the sidelines.

Going by the last couple of SANFL games, this guy is finally getting up to match fitness. And I like what I’m seeing.

Could be a real sleeper for us in 2023 if he can have an injury free pre-season under Burgess.

I just hope that they give him midfield time if all goes well as he’s parked on a HFF in the sanfl.

I hope you’re right. He was picked up at #11 and we are screaming out for midfield talent. Hoping he can be that gun mid we are looking for. Has to play first though.

You think his kicking up to par?

I think another pre season under the belts of Pedlar, Cook, Gollant etc will be very nice going into next season.
