Luke Shuey's ducking

Perhaps you would like to quote my entire post and point out how it is completely correct in its entirety. I'm not here for a pissing contest as i try not to lower myself to that level. The truth is there, if you would like to refute it i'm more than happy to have an earnest discussion. I'm not one eyed in that i will blindly follow the eagles and just stick up for our players. I watch every game, every week and would like to think i can provide a reasonably unbiased opinion.
I earlier mentioned Hams and McGinnitty as players who tend to keep their head down to draw a free for high contact, which is consistent with your comment. I've also mentioned a couple of North players who sometimes do the same, which is also consistent with your comment, no?

Some WC supporters on here some remarkably like Geelong supporters 2 years ago. It took most of them a while to agree that Selwood ducks (or drops his knees), wonder how many denials it will take you guys?

Shuey does everything in his power to break free from a tackle, he doesn't look for head high contact all that often and he hasn't done that for some time.

He lifts the elbow, that's his main ploy to shrug tackles and get his arm free. Anything that is borderline will go high and he gets a free, the lowering the shoulder accusation is a myth, and implied he should always be running in a straight line.

It's unfortunate your all bitching about him winning his own ball.

I found him getting hit on the head and acting like he got shot was very embarrassing has going to be a great player but I hope he can mature with milking as well its kinda hard to smile at what he does sometimes.

I think that will be last time I watch a Eagles game unless it's against North. Last night was absolutely disgraceful, how could anyone be proud of a team that has shuey, hams, darling etc, playing like they do must have no idea how this game should be played. I really hope Woosha shows footage from last night of Rosa going back with the flight to his players & encourage it because something has to change, it's becoming quite sad. The umpires at patersons need to stand up and be umpires instead of letting this sort of thing happen.

That first image was replicated last night. I don't have the means to do a screencap - don't have the vision as I was only watching on TV. Are you going to claim he doesn't do it on the back of that?

Buckley saw it- the first free Shuey got you could see buckley yell "he ducked".

Oh well if buckley saw it.

But, of course. He would never duck into a tack would he? He would never lead with his head first, would he? These denials are tiresome.
I saw Pendlebury duck last night. Why aren't you saying anything about that?

How could anyone be proud to support a team thats greatest ever player (Carey) was such a dog to his teammate and close friend? See, anyone can do what you are doing.

We might not be happy with some of it but it is in no way anywhere near as much of a big deal as you and the majority of bigfooty make it out to be. I don't like to fall into stereotypes but this North sook fest is catching on.

:D Thanks for that.

Has nothing to do with someone's integrity off the field, let's not go down that path because it will be a never ending thread. I'm talking about on field integrity, how can any supporter defend this. We took our knocks when Lindsay Thomas was accused of it, & it was there. How wce supporters see through this blight on the game is staggering.

On field, off field.. You can try draw lines in the sand to back up your argument all you want but it's still the same club. A lot of your supporters defended Thomas as well so that argument is invalid.

As it has been said over and over again. The same technique is used from players all over the league. Shuey usually gets 1 or 2 a game but this week he gets a heap and everyone sees it as a major blight on the game. It's a big footy overreaction. The players will adapt and tackle lower and everyone can move onto the next "blight in the game".

you do realise that its not just getting your hands on the ball, its about getting an effective disposal, to being a team benefit.

So either the coaching or Shuey and many other players have worked out that they have totally shat disposal and decision making under pressure, and thus stage for frees. If they were actually good at clearance work, had decent disposal under pressure they would not so consistently stage for free - but it has become their first instinct/reaction to anything like pressure.

Judging from that post i would say you know absolutely nothing about Shuey.

Our midfield may have some players with shat disposal and decision making under pressure, but Shuey is not one of them. Do you watch any Eagles games?

Doesn't matter if he is actually good disposal or not - his ducking tactics will have everyone thinking he is extremely average and thus needs to duck to get clearances - his actions are determining how hes viewed.

all the better, Eagles get a free kick and the opposition misunderestimates our players to boot. What a genius coach we have in Woosha!

I can't remember it, but it's certainly a possibility.

The difference here is pretty simple. If he did it on a constant basis, a la Shuey and friends, I would be calling for him to stop doing it. Stop defending the indefensible, he ducks to draw free kicks, and he does it on a constant basis.

On another note, the umps rewarding this tactic is one of the biggest "rule changes" in recent memory. Once upon a time the ump would have just said "you ducked, play on". These days the AFL is too worried about litigation to be even concerned about the integrity of the game.

This is just incorrect. His first option, virtually everytime, is to turn/duck his head/body or whatever into a position whereby he can win a free.
