Plays game 197 tonight. Hopefully he has enough run in his legs and he and Roughead gel well enough.

If so, then potentially a Roughead, Dunn and returning Moore backline... with Moore focusing on half back interceptions... that might work.

And Dunn will get to his 200.

or send him down the other end and kick a winning score.

Great comeback game. Was never out of the best 22. His leadership is outstanding both on and off the field (was almost always helping the coaches when injured). So happy he put one through, cause it definitely put a smile on my face.

Not sure he’d be the difference maker forward tbh. I’d like to see him play that 3rd tall role, at least until Howe returns. We’re desperately lacking leadership back there at the moment, and he’s a guy who will take on the responsibility of organising the back 6/7 and do a good job of it. Bugger off Madgen and let Dunny play that role. He’d probably free up Moore to intercept more too tbh.

Dunnys back!

What an utter legend. I’d leave him in as FB organisational type role, free Moore up to play floating intercept Howe role and swing forward occasionally. Madge can make way.

Did anyone notice how Dunnys pace looked? That’s the wildcard after 2 recos IMO, I like him in the team but if he’s going to get burnt on the lead half a dozen times a game then it’s not worth it.

Love his spirit and booming kick out of defence.

Excuse the intrusion onto your board but I wshl Lynden all the best. Had some great games with the Dees and turned into a very capable backman rarely beaten in a one on one (a bit harder for him to keep up with an agile forward on the lead). Was sad to hear of his 2 acl's and hope he at least gets a run at it for the rest of the year. May I ask how far he is off 200 games ?

DL.

Do you know what Melbourne's thinking was in letting him go? Were you thinking Tom McDonald was gonna fill his role before he turned into a forward in 2018? From what I remember Dunn was relegated to the VFL for much of 2017 so he was already being phased out.

I honestly have no idea what his form was like in his last few years at the Dee's, but when he finally came into our side in, I think, round 7 of 2018 he kept his spot in the side and was rock solid in defence until he got injured late in the year. In hindsight it seems like Dunn would've been pretty valuable in your backline that year. Poor Oscar McDonald got an absolute bath from Mason Cox in the QB match that year. Dunn's not as tall as Oscar, but surely he would've put some body on Mason and not had a bag kicked on him.

There's always a highlights package of a player put together when they move clubs and I remember watching Dunn's and seeing that he always played well on the monster forwards. He didn't quite have the speed or agility to go with some of the faster and more athletic players, but he'd keep guys like Tom Hawkins honest. What he lacked in speed and athleticism he more than made up for with his effort and physicality.

I think Dunn was probably the most crucial player that was missing for us in the 2018 Grand Final. Moore was coming on well as a defender at the time, and we really could've done with him as well, but Dunn had become the general of our backline. It was ridiculous how well and how quickly he settled into our side. It was like he'd already been with us for years. He really completed us as a team in 2018 and it was a big blow to lose him on the eve of finals.

Can definitely fit in the best 22 alongside Moore, Roughead, Howe, Maynard and Cripps. I reckon he can make your defense even stronger with Howe coming back. It's nice to see him back out here again and kicked that goal.

Dunn and Moore fit and firing in the 2018 GF would've been very interesting against Kennedy, Darling and the resting ruck but we were missing Nic Nat (the only ruck in the comp who can beat Grundy), Gaff and Shepperd as well. Another good player on that day you were missing was Wells where his class and polish would've been useful when Sidey was getting tagged.

If we didn't have Grundy on the day we would've had no ruck at all. At-least with Nic Nat out you still had 2 rucks on the day. Lycett had gotten enough games in the previous 2 years to not just be considered as simply a backup ruckman. There's a reason Port recruited him to be their #1 ruck the next year.

Gaff and Wells more or less cancel each other out.

Goldsack had never been a key position defender for us. He was certainly never tasked with taking on the oppositions #1 forward. He spent all of 2018 out injured and had been back for only 2 games before getting the job on Kennedy in the Grand Final.

Howe, like McGovern, is not a lockdown defender either. His strength is playing that 3rd man up, intercepting role. He had all of maybe 3 games experience having to lock down on a key forward before getting the job on Darling.

Dunn and Moore were sorely missed that day. How do you think West Coast would've done with even 1 of either Hurn, McGovern or Barrass out of the side in that Grand Final? Don't get me wrong though, I don't think it's unfair or unjust at all. That's just how our game goes. Players get injured. Shit happens. Part of what makes a good side is managing players. Dunn was old, Moore was injury prone. Just shit luck is all I'm saying. It's no guarantee they would've been the difference on the day. Kennedy just kicked 7 goals on Darcy Moore in our last game. As fans we can't help but wonder about this sort of thing though.

As far as Grundy and Nic Nat go, Grundy hasn't battled Nic Nat in the ruck very often. I know that Grundy and Lycett faced off in the ruck a bunch of times though when Lycett was at the Eagles. In fact, before the most recent game, I can only remember Grundy facing off against Nic Nat the one time in 2018, and Nic Nat went off injured at half time, so I really don't think there's a clear consensus at all on how they match up against each other.

Not to downplay Nic Nat, as I love him as a player and he was in beast mode against us a few weeks ago, but seriously, Grundy looked cooked in that game and his performances against Freo, Sydney and Adelaide have only confirmed that he's not in good form at the moment. I really think he should've been rested for the Freo and Sydney games.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing Grundy battle Nic Nat again in the future.

Kennedy got his goals on Roughead. Moore spent most of the game on the more agile Darling & did pretty well.

I disagree especially if given time to fully stay there.

I dont think it was lacking that much their first few goals came from opportunistic small fwd and so did later goals.
Himmelberg played well but mostly after Roughead went down.
Fogarty other then the superb pack split did sweet fa same as Lynch and Walker.
Wasnt typically beaten in the air more then any other week.

I would love to see the stats on how many of Moores intercepts actually end in a scoring chain.

I’m not sure how those points prove anything given Dunn was in the side this week? If anything our defence looked more solid with him in there than it has over the past couple of games where we’ve been opened up repeatedly, which is the point I was making.

Geez it was great to see Dunn get that goal, but I wish his Mum would tell him to get a haircut.

I havent seen a mullet like that since an Adelaide player (Wayne Weideman?) in the early 90s, and when your mullet is in the same league as an Adelaide mullet then its probably time to think about how much is too much.

I really disliked the hair until the commentators said he’s raised 50k in a couple of years for the RCH with it.

Unreal effort, hope it stays!

My sincere apologies to the man. If he is raising dough for the RCH with it then I can sort of see why he would continue with it. My (uninformed) comment was purely on aesthetic grounds.

would be surprised if Roughy played on Friday so Dunne will stay in.

when Roughy comes back he and Dunne can take the key forwards and allow Moore to zone off and intercept in Howes role.

I thought you were saying you need Moore back there for leadership not Dunny?
