Once again when we draft in top shelf talent, we can’t develop it, we starve it instead

Once again? Gooch is unlucky his career didn’t start under Nicks in a rebuild, as I think he would’ve had more chances at this level. However, he just happened to be drafted to a team contending and then a serious injury stopped any chance he had of resurrecting his career. What other young talent under Nicks has been ‘starved’?

C'mon Baccs, I've done more than my share of defending the club over time but this is just plain and simple a ridiculous decision.

Only a couple of weeks ago I thought we were finally heading in the right direction but signing a 32 year old when in a rebuilding phase is nonsensical whatever way you slice it.

That 2016 draft is looking worse every day. The list of names taken after Gallucci makes for some ugly reading... Berry, Powell-Pepper, English, Ridley, Hayward, Witherden all within the next 10 picks.

Himmelberg the only one stopping it being a complete wipeout.

Why would we re-rookie a player we rate lower than a 32-year-old in a rebuild?

I disagree almost in total with this....Gallucci has shown very serious glimpses there's a quality AFL player in there somewhere....Mookay has shown for his whole career at best he sits on the fringe of best 22 in any decent AFL team.

If accepting mediocrity is your thing fine.

Glimpses. Shown Glimpses. And publicly has his work ethic called into question.

Mookay will be depth next year, unless new players coming in don't step up for length of time and then he'll come in.

If you're narrow-minded enough to think that a club gives a player 230 games 'just for the fun of it' or because they love trolling 'Mutineer' from the Big Footy pages, then I'm not sure there's much helping you.

Reward for performances, and Mookay has shown it in spades this season. From the sounds of it you're the one that's wanting to reward mediocrity, which is exactly how I would define Galluci since arriving at the club.

He's already the worst 200 game player, if not worst then definitely bottom 5 (and I looked at the entire list)

If he makes 250 games it will be without a doubt the worst to ever reach that milestone

Hamill was given first crack in 2020 until his concussion issues and I would expect the same again in 2021, especially now with Sholl also developing well at this level. I would expect DMac to play games at some point so we don’t burn out our youth, but I don’t think he will be best 22 based on what we saw with a fitter squad at the start of 2020. Heck, Milera will also easily slot back in as well, DMac is at least 4th or 5th in the queue for his position.

We're at -6 on the senior list and -3 on the rookie list assuming we get Hately

So we have 6 senior list spots and 1 rookie list spot factoring in list size reductions. Looking like 4 ND picks, 2 NGA F/S and a rookie

All jokes aside, was that Mackay's best year for the crows?

If we had ZERO half back/wing players this wouldn't be the worst decision ever. However, we now have Hamil, Sholl and McPherson who are ready for a full season with Smith+Seed+Brown still on the list and Milera to come back in. We are the most stocked half back/medium defender team in the comp.

And exactly why he will be depth unless we get an extremely bad injury run. It was pretty clear at the start of 2020 when both Hamill and Milera were fit that Mackay isn’t seen as best 22 anymore.
