I'm intrigued by what will happen here.....huge test for our culture compared to the last expansion teams (where we lost about 5 of our BNF top 10!!).

Chasten came from hawks VFL....so immediately there is a connection there and it will be that sort of pre-existing connection that entices people.
So the connection to Gowans can't be ignored.
Good point. And I'm sure Gowans will have a wishlist of Collingwood players he'd love to target. Especially since the NSW talent pool is arguably not big enough to fill two teams. So maybe there will be Collingwood players being offered tier 1 and tier 2 contracts in Sydney that they wouldn't get in the Victorian market.

I think its very likely Meg Hutchins will be part of the coaching line up for Hawthorn. Not that we have many players left from 2017-2018 but there will be some pre-existing connections that could play a role there too.

We lost Eva and later Bernardi to GWS. Eva had a broader package including employment in coaching, not sure about Bernardi, but she only lasted a season up there. I think if the swans are to poach established players from Vic clubs they’ll need to follow the Eva model with an employment package tied in.

Our culture seems a lot better now, so hopefully we’re not hit too hard.
Good point about Sydney being able to offer generous packages beyond just playing. But hopefully if we do get hit, that they're all replaceable players or players we've already drafted potential replacements for. Depth is definitely a strength of ours now compared to 2019.

As AFLW players still aren't paid as professionals would you want to pack up and move to Sydney, considering the cost of living there?

This season isn’t going according to (my) plan. :(

A bit too much upheaval for me, what with the ongoing impacts of injury and Covid on players’ training and being available for games. And now this, although I wish him well.

I don't think any of the AFLW clubs season's are going the way they planned with postponed matches, and players unavailable through covid protocols.....

Talk about things not going to plan, looks like the WCE are heading home after this weekend, eventhough we are fixtured to play them the following weekend...
So are we travelling to Perth now for that game, or do we get a new opponent?
You think they would have rescheduled us to play the WC this weekend at Vic Park, then they could've headed home....
No wonder the players are confused and unsettled. Would be very frustrating not knowing who or where your playing!!

Yeah, I don't know what they expect to do... Unless WA plan on opening the border. Of maybe a small break back in WA, then they come back? No idea

They wont let us fly in and out otherwise could have been doing that until now

Exactly, so my belief was that the players could only commit to a 3 week period to stay out of WA. Unless something changes with the borders, l'm not sure how they continue to play this season....

Yeah, and what if they have to quarantine for 2 weeks..

Dont know what the WA gov are expecting them to do.

And what happens while the rest of the comp continues on.

This could have been avoided if WA opened the borders or allowed a fly in and out.

WC play the cats in Vic tonight and due to play the saints in a rescheduled match on Tuesday, so no room to move. Appears the idea was WA home games against non-Vic clubs early and a block of Vic away games in the middle, but WA clubs having to host games in Vic early mucked that up.

Always seemed likely he’d land a gig with one of the new sides. It’s shitty timing though and for mine there should have been a ban on new sides signing coaches and off field personnel in season. Either do what the hawks did and sign early or wait. Hopefully none of the players head north with him.

Congrats Scotty. Thanks for being part of the coaching staff and really quite surprised we picked you up when North did their cull. By all reports he'll be great for Swans.

</start venting>

I don't technically judge him for leaving at this point in time because I don't know the ins and outs .... .. great opp and people allow to do what they see best etc ..... BUT I'm really, really F@*#ing disappointed it's ethically allowed to happen. WTF!? It's such a small season with lots of time invested with the coaching into the playing group and all of a sudden another startup team is allowed to poach during a season!?!?! I dunno when his discussions began with the Swans but F@*#ing hell, have some business decorum Swans and allow him to play out the season. It should be simply off limits for any Teams that would suffer a season impact - period! Sign up, play out your commitment and then begin. I point the finger at the AFL to allow this to happen too. We F@*#ing copped this quite a bit under Mick in finals times too but to allow this to happen in a fledgling league IMO just sets the wrong F@*#ing tone.

I presume Scotty had a contract and it was matually agreed to terminate. So with this in mind, I'll play the devils, are Teams going to poach players mid-season? You stop playing now and play next season. Would that be allowed to happen? I hardly think so!! And as player you'd be dragged through the mud.

</end venting>

Your venting is understood.☹️

So I bumped into steph this morning at training, and asked her where we are playing this week.

She said Perth. WA gov are gonna allow a fly in and fly out. Tripple vaxxed.

But we can possibly flip the north game that was meant to be in tassie and make that a home game for us.

Nothing in the media or information from the club that this game has been moved to Perth, as yet.
Considering the West Coast girls just got back home, and have played two games within a few days, l doubt that we play them this weekend. More likely postponed to maybe Monday/Tuesday next week, in Perth.....

Our season has been derailed. Two losses in a row, played in Qld last week, now a fixture change, and now over to Perth, against a good WC side. A game that should've been a win here at Vic Park, now looks very much 50/50.....

Oh well, got to take the good with the bad l guess.....

We'll still beat eagles. They may have gotten their first win, but even we smashed the saints and they only just won.

It's hard work for Collingwood members to attend games this year with constant schedule changes every other day. Hopefully the Men's season isn't as bad as this.
Now WA are allowing fly in and out. That part shouldn't be an issue for the mens season, so shouldn't be any hubs at least.

We should be able to, otherwise our season has really gone up in smoke should we lose.
The WC should've beaten Geelong at the cattery, so they could’ve had two wins up to this point.
True.
I see Eagles/Cats in similar positions. Havent had much wins last few sseasons. From the same expansion? (or a year apart)mI know Cats have a new coach, not sure about the eagles. Both developing their list/game.
