Bloody shame if he retires now.
Absolute champ and ornament to the game (pay attention S Lane).
I would have been happy for him to play on.
Let's hope this is not a repeat of recent other send-off games...

Given your great record of coming down here for wins, can I suggest you book your ticket right now?

simmo would have club games record holder in his head as the last thing, he is too humble a legend of the club to worry about that sort of thing.

has finished the previous 2 seasons with bad hip injurys he deserves a massive finale game

In another thread I posted an article that Simmo is looking to retire right after the Carlton game this week. He does not feel comfortable going after Arch's record, although I suspect the way his body feels would have a lot to do with it.

A true North champ Simmo is.

Hear, hear!

His mind is a factor too, I reckon. It's been a tough year.

Coach takes off.....

Previous captain takes off....

Lost 8 in a row....

Talk about jumping off a SINKING ship ....!!!!!!

Hope you are not suicidal Wellsfan. Please seek help if you are. Your world seems to be very black right now.

Says the club is moving forward for the first time in his career.
Says the off field turnaround hasn't been given the credit it deserves.

Great to hear this from someone as intelligent as Simmo. He has been there during the two flags and knows what he is talking about re on and off the field issues.

He gave the administration the wrap it deserves and was very classy in everything he said about the club he is leaving. Delighted that North are keeping him on for the rest of the year.

You especially hope that cos we play Carlton, don't you? ;)

Even more now.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Good luck to him though. He was one of the players I always admired in the last 10 years.

Legend! And we get more of the young kids. He should go straight into one of the assitant coaching roles, he would be a vast improvement.

Wellsfan - what a dumb thing to say jumping off a sinking ship
The general perceptions would be that coach goes, ex-captain goes, Buckley says no. All fits with the general naysayer view of all things North. I confess, until we obtain a coach who conveys strength and confidence, and we start showing some positive signs onfield, to match the off-field gains, the view does seem a bit bleak. Maybe I'm also being affected by the 'leadership vaccum'. Or I'm an imbecile.

(BTW, domiroo, see BF rules about posting. No personal attacks.)

What a pessimistic outlook !! For Fu** sake This is how you could look at it.A coach who knew his time was over moved aside for the good of the club so they would have the best possible chance of getting a new coach , The ex Captain who moves over so the kids can be played so a new era can begin again for the good of the club , Buckley says No ...Big deal !!! He's not the only bloke right for the job ..the club has the luxury of being able to spend time finding the right man because of these 2 decisions by 2 fine people with the club at heart.
We move into a brand new complex with a new coach New Playing era about to explode...Ziebell Anthony tarrant wright gima Lower okeefe Benjamin all yet to show anything near where they could be !!! I'd say it's dam exciting All i want to know is when the pessimistic gloom creators are going to get a positive frame of mind and jump on board the Roo train and stop dragging down the club !!!! Yeah we have had a shocker of a year for injuries but thats footy !!!We will work through it and have another crack next year and if that doesnt work we will be there for another crack

Steady on there fella. I'm not one of the 'pessimistic gloom creators', though I feel gloomy at this breaking/prospective news. My concern is that the real pessimistic types - of which I am not one - will keep seeking any opportunity to spread their messages of doom and gloom whilst ever we have debt, and challenges to retain healthy membership levels and sustainable revenue streams.

Someone like Buckley would have given us a 'leg up' in the general perception stakes, have attracted media and corporate support, as well as the little matter of potentially being a very good coach. The only others who fit this category are, for the most part, older. Whilst our eventual coach may well wipe away the memory of this event, and perhaps show us we dodged a bullet, right now I think it's a big deal that we appear to have missed out. As it is, I think there are many, uninformed or not, who will form the view that an asst coaching role at Collingwood outweighs a snr job at North, thus adding to a poor profile.

p.s. It would be good if you found the 'grammar key'.
:p
