Alot being said about the apparent bravery of the police officer, but I think if most people had a gun and the other had only a knife, they would feel pretty confident about winning that one.
Weird statement. Lots of things can go wrong. He could be hiding somewhere, her gun could malfunction, he could have other weapon he hasn't used yet. She is running into an unknown situation where multiple people are being killed. She did an amazing job and saved lives. Of course it was brave.

Such a weird thing to say. Even if you don't rate it, she ****ing did it while you went on big footy and talked about it.

The Inspector has been named as Amy Scott. She didn’t want her name released last night but that appears to have changed because it has been formally published by media.

The perpetrator has been named as Joel Cauchi, a 40yo man who is from the Brisbane area in Queensland and came to NSW about a month ago. They have mentioned mental health issues.

The baby is apparently in a serious but stable condition.

Sure but what about all the other shoppers who confronted him with improvised defences like chairs or whatever they could find before police arrived with a gun? Shouldn't they be lauded just as much?

best thing they could do was shoot the scumbag should have done it to that prick from the Bourke st mall a few years ago as well

Hopefully someone in jail is nice enough to do it now.

Obviously
If you wanna say nice things about them then say it, trying to talk down the cop is one of the most w***er things I've read here.

The bravery is not a competition.

Inspector Amy Scott’s actions were heroic by any measure. She ran in to the situation alone with no backup, not knowing if there were multiple offenders or the guy had a gun at that point. She didn’t hesitate to chase and confront him. Sure in hindsight we know it was one guy with a knife but she did not have a clue when she went running in. Not that I think racing to confront one guy with a knife isn’t heroic on its own.

Absolutely the members of the public who tried to stop him were also heroic. Bollard guy was amazing to directly target him on the escalator with no training or back up either. People in a frenzied state are more dangerous than normal. Then we have the guys who ran after the cop carrying chairs. That was brave, too.

Not to mention the members of the public who, despite the chaos, unknowns and danger, ran to help victims, not knowing if they were putting themselves in harm’s way by doing so.

My point is that rather than criticizing the lauding of Amy Scott, who thoroughly deserves the recognition, talk about the other people, too.

Also, as someone who recognizes that police are often incredibly shit and abuse their power, it’s nice to see a police officer doing exactly what we hope they’ll do and yes, IMO it’s particularly impressive that it was a woman because regardless of her training she is likely to be at a physical disadvantage to the perpetrator, gun or no gun.

Well actually not obviously the way the politicians and media are concentrating on the police and not the actions of the general public, the one's without the weapons.
Wgaf seriously are you that much of campaigner?

You must be watching a different media to me. I've seen plenty of coverage given to the general public's actions.
