I'm beginning to wonder why no-one else has taken him but I'm going to have to take my 4th Blue in Cooper Lord
Handy player to come off the bench.

Polo Yerrup!

Apart from maybe 4 teams (including us) he would be best 22 IMO. A great selection.

That makes it the 25th Blue to be selected (27 if you count Martin and Kennedy from the guys we moved on). Bias aside, it shows we have a hugely talented list. Just have to make it count this year!

Possibly also shows some navy blue bias. I've ended up with one Carlton player because they were either taken before me, or I just valued others higher at the spot.

We have a great list though. Pickings are getting very slim. I've looked at fitting another Blue in but just can't find one that fits ahead of others who are still left.

This is a tactical time, rather than best available.

I want pace, tenacity and tackle pressure in my backline. This allows me a small defender, and allows me to take Blicavs out of a back pocket, so I can put him on my bench as the ultimate utility.

I had Harry in my hitlist and 'Lij was a no-brainer whom I selected because he is valid in at least 3 positions.

George H & Cooper were selected because they were what I considered 'Best Available' in that position at the time (probably because I left my Mid selection until late due to the 'Spine First' strategy).

Probably still Blue Tinted glasses but better than taking a fringe dweller from another team.

Please don't feel targeted. I had no idea who had who when I said it. I play devil's advocate a lot. I had interest in plenty of our fringe players, but later than what they were taken.

I don't feel 'targeted', I'm just explaining my strategy (in selecting spine first).

Also, I think in some way selecting players from your own team is (more legit) due to knowledge of that player.
If I select what I deem to be a good player from another team, in some circumstances that is more of a superficial pick because I don't follow them closely and am going by my mental 'highlight reel'.

Having said that, the champions more or less pick themselves.

Cooper was on my list also - love to have included him on le bench.

I had him down for a possible bench spot. If we are measuring real life, he is a fringe player for Carlton as well. Probably spot 21-23 so that all rings true. Other clubs also have a lot of players who fit into that fringe category, but have plenty of experience. Some of them we Carlton supporters don't watch as much, or appreciate while we are watching them.

I see Boyd, Fogarty, Moir, Lord, Cincotta, Motlop, Silvagni, and even Docherty as fringe in our side. Some will miss out.

I think once we're past round 14-15 we are talking fringe players at all clubs, a bunch of them aren't going to play 15+ games. The way I've been picking is "if I was picking a best 23 from what's available, what would give me the best chance at winning a premiership" rather than who is locked into their teams best 22 and is going to play every week.

A bit harder to judge 'Fringe Player' these days but if you omit the swag of young players drafted that North, Richmond, West Coast etc. have been forced to play, then those players would slot straight into their sides.

Oh, I'm totally avoiding fringe players from the cellar dweller types. Some veteral Tigers get considered though, especially if they played in the 3 flags.

Port, Melbourne, Brisbane fringe players though ... I'll take 'em.

I keep altering my list of available players depending on need. I'm analysing and re-analysing my list as to where it could do with strengthening and it changes every time.

My latest want completes my puzzle I think. Not a lot seem to rate him, but I'll kind of be devastated if he gets taken in the next 3 picks, as I don't have that specific ingredient.

It's funny how this game makes you passionate over player number 22 on your list.

Have a cuppa...I'll be 10-15.

I was just thinking about a second coffee for the morning too.

Machine coffee ... cappuccino sachets ... mocha powder or just good old freeze dried. Decisions.
