Worsfold is the man they should chase, it all depends if he has the fire in the belly and the willingness to pack up stumps in Perth and move to Melbourne for at least 5 years? I agree that Mark Harvey should get another crack somewhere, he set Fremantle up and handed Ross Lyon a ready made team. People tend to forget that Harvey took the Dockers to the finals in 2010 and actually beat Hawthorn, they give him the flick after a horror run of injuries in 2011, poach the over rated Ross Lyon and amazingly they still haven't won a flag with that said team, surely this is their year? If Freo don't win the Premiership this year then the entire Dockers coaching staff should be moved on! The pressure is all on Freo, they are by far the best team, but i have this inner feeling that they will blow it again.
IMO Harvey is worth a shot at Carlton, but i suspect Essendon have dibs on him just in case the "golden boy" falls over in Switzerland. Worsfold will get the Blues job if he wants it. Any new coach will need to set the board straight right from the out set.
The Blues woes began a lot earlier than the Mick Malthouse arrival at Carlton, i watched John Elliott on "Open Mike" the other night and almost threw up my dinner when he openly admitted he never embraced the draft or anything the AFL have done with regards to the national competition. The only thing i agreed with him on was Carlton should never have left Princes Park and 4 or 5 home games should still be played there. His old mate Collo nailed him on that one, much to the detriment of the Carlton football club in 2015. The Blues were a club that just went out and bought the best players and success came naturally to them, then all of a sudden they had to work a little harder at it and they simply didn't have the administrators, recruiters and club culture capable of marching into the 21st century of AFL football. The Blues were stuck in the 80's! Meanwhile teams like North, Hawthorn and Geelong just moved on ahead of them and have been Victoria's most successful clubs of the past 20 years!
Carlton need a strong coach with a 5 year commitment, the administration needs an overhaul and they must convince the AFL to play some games again at Princes Park. The next 10 years will be tumultuous for the AFL, this is Melbourne and Melbournians will attend a snail race to get their sporting fix, but they are not attending Carlton games. The State of Origin is sold out at the MCG, the Melbourne Victory GF win will only make them stronger and some AFL clubs will pay the ultimate penalty of extinction or re-location within that 10 year time frame. Footy is a business and if Carlton becomes an unsustainable business what happens next? It closes down! I think Carlton fans deserve something better, they want to see something happening long term, not just a one off good performance now and again. The Blues have hit the danger zone and i never believed that was possible until now.

Not as good a Port Adelaide in the SANFL during that period.

Premierships:
  • 1951, 1954
    1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959
    1962, 1963, 1965, 1977, 1979
    1980, 1981, 1988, 1989, 1990
    1992, 1994, 1995, 1996
  • post AFL entry
    1998, 1999

Why do Port supporters have to continually do this?

No matter the thread, topic, or discussion at hand, one of their supporters has to jump in and try and make it about Port's SANFL heyday. It's almost a meme.

True but if Hird is gone next year then I wouldn't be surprised if the club chases Bomber again.

Gibbs and murphy are quality players. The fact they have no interest or spark is because of malthouse and carlton football club.

Theyvshould trade gibbs to adelaide or port who will give picks for him.

Murphy they should trade too.

Do what stkilda did. Get value for some stars while they still are and just start rebuilding and ffs TELL THE SUPPORTERS!! Poor fans dont know whats happening. Last year they thought a flag was possible.

Thomas was a mistake, Malthouse was a mistake get rid of em take the pain.

For me personally, I hope they continue to believe VFL players are the answer. I hope they keep Mick and gibbs etc. as seeing the blues bottom 4 is awesome!!

I noted the column in the Hun today about Carazzo's move into umpiring.

To me it's a smart move in so many ways.

It helps Carlton out in terms of list management.
It helps the game out by Carazzo giving something back to it and not taking the easy $$$ in the media or as an assistant coach.

and finally

It helps him out as he can remain in footy.

You only need to look at how Jordan Bannister and Leigh Fisher have taken to the role. The latter could be in the top 6 umpires come finals time. Been really impressive. Bannister was in a similar place just 2 years ago. We could within 5 years have 3 former AFL players umpiring say the grand final. That would be massive for the game.

You certainly need forwards, but not big ones. You need small ones and medium ones.
Disagree wholeheartedly. Key forwards are the ones you base your forward line around. For example, neither Breust nor Betts would be nearly as effective in our forward line compared to Hawthorn or Adelaide's because we don't have the quality of Tex, Roughy, Gunston up there. Daniher and Carlisle play too similarly for them to ever really settle as a combination IMO, they're both at their best deep in the forward line and aren't as effective up the ground. Henderson would be more effective at that than either of them and as such would be great help to our forward line.

It is about priorities though. Everything suggests Danniher is going to be a very good player. It might still be a few years away, but it will happen. He does need a foil, but you don't have to break the bank to find it. Who is Hawthorn's star CHF? Who is Freo's star CHF? Sydney have Buddy and Tippett but quite frankly they suffer the same problem you are referring to with Danniher and Carlisle except whilst Buddy is better out of the goal square he is good enough to go up the ground and be effective as well.

Bruest or Betts are exactly what Essendon need, or Gunston who is hardly a key forward. You want to pile your team full of talls and you will never win anything, especially if you do it at the expense of other parts of your list.

The reason Freo are so good is their list is balanced. Same with the Hawks. Same with Port. Same with Adelaide. And lack of balance would be my number one concern with Sydney. And your mob. Getting Henderson would not help that lack of balance.

Well, we can agree to disagree. Our list balance is such that we literally have no key forwards outside of Daniher and Carlisle. We're attempting to turn Pears into a key forward it's that dire. If you still count him as a defender we have him, Fletcher, Hurley, Hooker, Steinberg and Gwilt as KPD's/3rd tall defenders and Carlisle and Daniher as key forwards. Our list imbalance is that more than anything (which we should fix this season with Fletcher, Pears and Steinberg unlikely to be on the list next season).

Hopefully young Langford can be like him.

But your right we need smalls and crumbing forwards cant expect Carlise and Daniher to mark and kick goals every week.

Wouldn't mind Gibbs but no chance of giving up a first round pick for him.

Carlton would want too much for Yarran for us to get him, would be a good fit though.
Yarran is most likely to head home and play for West Coast i would have thought.

Its all part of a grand plan by carlton, we will buy a grand final by infiltrating the elite umpire ranks to rig the free kick count.

He will definitely not get the gig, but Nathan Bassett's CV is pretty good given Carlton's position.

He took over at Norwood, when they were on their knees. Almost a decade of mediocrity, a couple of daft coach appointments, poor off field, egos everywhere.

In his first or second year he took the team to a GF. Took them to a prelim the next year, then a Premiership the year after, and a Premiership the year after that.

This was without any big name players. He brought on dozens of kids and implemented a culture across the club that has seen them go on to win more premierships since he left.

Low profile, but brilliant results at SANFL level. Could be another Luke Beveridge in the making. Makes sense to be at an AFL club and learn the ins and outs. Whether or not Essendon is the best club for that is up in the air.

2 year apprenticeship as an AFL assistant coach may be too short for a club to sign him up for 2016.
Sounder like Clarkson with the sanfl build and flags. Would be a reasonable get but would need vision something that Carlton has lacked.

Gibbs ( 2nd rounder) Murphy (late first round) yarran ( 2nd rounder) walker ( pick 40-50) kruezer (2nd rounder)
The problem with carlton is that they Always overrate there players... That's the reason why there in this position..
SOS has some work to do because it may well be 7 years if all goes well before they play finals
The only guys worth keeping on that list is walker and Yarran. Back in 2010 all those guys you listed were the core of carlton.

Sorry mate we have already picked the carcass clean with Betts and Sauce, only the slops left.
Give your team a year or two and you will possibly get cameron giles cheaply. Hes a key defeder from SA. As for Trigg... Well, thats self explanatory. If I were Carlton, I would use a 1st round pick on a key defender then follow collingwoods and freos lead and get a posse of 190 cm mids. they might be lucky if one turns out to be a tall forward.
