I listen to the good oil regularly and it is a decent show. Casual Fridays is onbe of the top 3 shows on SEN. However, I wont talk about what Doran is as a person, but instead focus on his lack of sporting knowledge/interest in sporting events. I don't know how many times he has mentioned on air that he has fallen asleep during big sporting events or didn't watch it. As a sports talkback presenter I find this very frustrating. As someone who gets paid to talk sport, it should be his focus to watch as many big sporting events as possible and have decent knowledge on a number of sports, but he simply lacks it.

One thing to defend though, is that the 12-4 shift on radio would be a difficult one. 4 hours of radio to fill each day and sometimes their isn't that much going on in sport on some days. I disagree with some suggestions as to who could do better in the slot, I disagree that Harford could do a better job, he would get annoying very quickly as he tries to be funny to much and he often isn't.

Well I disagree on one aspect and that is that the good oil is a good show. IMO it isn't.
However I do agree that 4 hours to fill would be quite difficult, exactly why as you say he should be boned up on all things sporting or newsworthy. He should also give more time to talkback folks, that is the best time-filler known to man. I get the impression that he thinks his views are far more important than any poor soul ringing up on talkback.
Maybe they need to have a split afternoon shift, someone from 12-2 then someone from 2-4. Say Harford 12-2.30 and Nicole Livingstone 2 -4 with a 30 minute-60 minute crossover with both hosts bouncing ideas.
Maybe KB stays on air till 1 and the good oil becomes a 3 hour show with another presenter. All options that could be looked at.

Perhaps he is a knob, but then so are Neil Mitchell, Derryn Hinch etc.
Despite this, it seems that Doran knows how to put on a listenable 4 hour radio show. He is not a sports expert, but he understands the broadcasting game.
The question remains, does Doran put on a reasonable radio show ?

Like I said in a previous post, I enjoy parts of the Good Oil, the news hour between 2-3 is boring and I often change to a different station and I also don't like the quiz format.

Given that he has maintained a steady, decent ratings figure for a while now, I would suggest that he remains in the position he is in at SEN.

The quiz is terrible, fills in 30 minutes with some extreme questions. Then what does the poor listener win? Bugger all, two tickets to Talledega Nights or some other movie that the station has free promos to. The prizes for the effort and cost if you are on a mobile do not measure up.
Get rid of the quiz, the ferret and the crap prizes.

A mute donkey could host the show and people would still listen to it cos its a sports show and there are a lot of sports mad people out there. You admit he is not a sports expert (he is the opposite!) - I say a sports-dedicated station should have hosts who ARE experts...

Dead right, although he would suggest that he is an expert because he is a card carrying paid up member of the media. Those qualifications surely make the ferret an expert on everything.

Enjoyed the show tremendously when Doran was in China and Harf was hosting. What will it take for SEN to wake up and give Harf the gig full time?

I dropped off this boring twat years ago. He interviewed some bloke from a gay website about pictures of AFL players being displayed, when he wasn't winning his agument and could fluster the bloke, he brought up the picture of Matty Robbins holding his baby and tried to link the site with peodifiles. what the !

I'd love to sit down over a beer with a media executive one day, and ask them to explain to me why they give jobs to the most annoying people possible. For some unknown reason they see people complaining about them as a sign of popularity. It must be the only business in the world that thrives on giving their customers exactly what they don't want.

I listened a little today and wish I could say I was amazed by how many times he mentioned St Blunda.... Seriously if Ed had his own show and pumped Collingwood up as much ...... yeah OK.

Anyone remember a few months ago when Rita and Harf were getting into him for passing out on his nature strip after a big night out?

2 beers isn't a big night

Some bloke rang up today and told him (doran) that he was trivialising depression

He said you're wrong

I thought people were allowed to ring up and give their opinions

But I think I now know why he is the way he is

LMS - Little man syndrome

He said he was 5 foot 8 today

Does anyone notice that he mumbles when he is on air? Sometimes you can hardly hear him. He must talk a fair away from the microphone. His guests you can understand clearly, but Doran you struggle to understand at times. You expect the radio guests to struggle with speaking clearly into a microphone but not the presenter.

Interviewed Max and Wayne Richardson today, a couple of Collingwood greats from the late 60's and 70's. He couldn't help giving a little dig that he was a St Kilda fan and that the game although tough for Wayne who was playing was a joy for Saints supporters.
Smug little wank

It's good he has only the one premiership to hold onto, it frees up his other hand to hold something else.

He thought it was a huge joke that Rita bitten by a snake, till he realised after a number of sms's and calls that it might be serious. So then became all fatherly and wished her the best.
Condescending little twat
