Well I disagree on one aspect and that is that the good oil is a good show. IMO it isn't.I listen to the good oil regularly and it is a decent show. Casual Fridays is onbe of the top 3 shows on SEN. However, I wont talk about what Doran is as a person, but instead focus on his lack of sporting knowledge/interest in sporting events. I don't know how many times he has mentioned on air that he has fallen asleep during big sporting events or didn't watch it. As a sports talkback presenter I find this very frustrating. As someone who gets paid to talk sport, it should be his focus to watch as many big sporting events as possible and have decent knowledge on a number of sports, but he simply lacks it.
One thing to defend though, is that the 12-4 shift on radio would be a difficult one. 4 hours of radio to fill each day and sometimes their isn't that much going on in sport on some days. I disagree with some suggestions as to who could do better in the slot, I disagree that Harford could do a better job, he would get annoying very quickly as he tries to be funny to much and he often isn't.

Mark Doran you are a Knob .
Perhaps he is a knob, but then so are Neil Mitchell, Derryn Hinch etc.
Despite this, it seems that Doran knows how to put on a listenable 4 hour radio show. He is not a sports expert, but he understands the broadcasting game.
The question remains, does Doran put on a reasonable radio show ?
The quiz is terrible, fills in 30 minutes with some extreme questions. Then what does the poor listener win? Bugger all, two tickets to Talledega Nights or some other movie that the station has free promos to. The prizes for the effort and cost if you are on a mobile do not measure up.Like I said in a previous post, I enjoy parts of the Good Oil, the news hour between 2-3 is boring and I often change to a different station and I also don't like the quiz format.
Given that he has maintained a steady, decent ratings figure for a while now, I would suggest that he remains in the position he is in at SEN.

Dead right, although he would suggest that he is an expert because he is a card carrying paid up member of the media. Those qualifications surely make the ferret an expert on everything.A mute donkey could host the show and people would still listen to it cos its a sports show and there are a lot of sports mad people out there. You admit he is not a sports expert (he is the opposite!) - I say a sports-dedicated station should have hosts who ARE experts...
Enjoyed the show tremendously when Doran was in China and Harf was hosting. What will it take for SEN to wake up and give Harf the gig full time?

Anyone remember a few months ago when Rita and Harf were getting into him for passing out on his nature strip after a big night out?
I thought people were allowed to ring up and give their opinions
Does anyone notice that he mumbles when he is on air? Sometimes you can hardly hear him
Interviewed Max and Wayne Richardson today, a couple of Collingwood greats from the late 60's and 70's. He couldn't help giving a little dig that he was a St Kilda fan and that the game although tough for Wayne who was playing was a joy for Saints supporters.
