Go your hardest but there's one very big problem there.... he's contracted for 2025 so you'll pay a premium unless you wait for 2026.
I think our defensive stocks can wait another 12 months, so I don't think it is as big a problem as you may think.
We are not talking Sam Taylor.

Also, the way in which he left, the club's new throw your arms around people nature must be forgiving.

Personally, I couldn't care if he came back or not but a first rounder or Beau and a pick, must be a joke.

There is every chance it is just the usual "lets use Collingwood as click bait".

But it will play out, as it will and we will see I guess.

Are you sure you don't want us to throw in the Daicos Bros also? :D

If he does come back to Collingwood, then you are going to be disappointed with the return, if a first rounder, or Beau and a pick (that one I had to read twice) is what you are hoping for.

Crows don't have to release him at all this year, so if any Pies supporters are expecting him to be traded for a packet of chips, prepare to be disappointed...

I don't think there would be too many Pies supporters who really care if he comes back or not.

I only just heard the news regarding the possible return and there was nothing on our board, so I thought I would come here and get a feel for what is happening.
It was only the outlandish request that caught my attention.

I hope he stays with you, if he costs anything more than a pick in the 30s.

Develop him for another year, then he can come back for free, if there is a spot.

Well if we lose Keane, we'd have to invest in getting another KPD. For instance we might invest in getting Petty instead of a FA mid. Keeping Keane is easily the best option here. Playing a 'not terrible' KPD instead, and having only Borlase as backup, makes the squad worse
Really interesting point.
I wonder if I'm happy to lose Keane if it meant getting Petty?

I think I would do that deal.
Thoughts anyone?

No, because what we get for Keane would be less than what we paid for Petty.

And there is marginal difference between the two. In fact, Keane has been far more consistent and overall just better this year. And that's coming off hopping on a plane for Ireland and picking up a footy again. Petty's been in the system for years.

Next year maybe.

Petty would cost us more than what we'd get for Keane this year. A lot more.

Please No, keep Keane and take a mid with our 1st pick because the Dees aren't taking anything less than a 1st for a contracted Petty.

Edit :

This draft is midfielder laden draft at the top end.

Petty’s worth more than Keane (as is McCreery) but that’s not the question.

2 months ago, Keane is a depth piece we hope we don’t have to use. Things change fast.
Not too sure about your McCreery call looking at potential upside with Keane.

6 goals in 2024 is hardly anything to get excited about by position

You don't consider a Keane/Petty swap this year

You might consider Petty if Keane still wants to leave at the end of 2025, when both are FA's?

That said, I'd probably prefer to target Ballard at this point
Jacob Weitering is an unrestricted free agent in 2025...;)

I think you're still struggling with the whole 'trading' thing, but i'll break it down for you. There's literally no reason to trade a key defender for a pick in the 30's when they're still under contract, and when they're performing brilliantly. You seem quite emotive for someone who's not that bothered with bringing in a key defender who's stats this year are only marginally off Darcy Moore.

Next year after developing him for a year, you will still need to trade for him, or he will go into the draft where you'd need to spend a pick on him. Are you following how this works or are you new here?

Keane has huge upside, particularly if he can improve his tackling and 1-1 work.

McCreery is super quick, and I love his F50 defensive pressure, something we desperately need.

Thank you for "breaking it down for me" now please allow me to enlighten you.
As I believe he is a delisted free agent, he can walk to any team he likes, without being traded for.

So yeah, if it is true that Collingwood are looking at him and cant get a trade done, there is always next year for free.

Glad I could clear that up for you.

Yeah, that was my thought as he would have had to have been a delisted free agent after his time at Collingwood originally

Depends if he was actually delisted or not. Players that take themselves off lists or retire are not technically delisted for the purposes of delisted free agency

I believe this is the case, though people with more stripes (pardon the pun) than us will work it out.
Clubs have ways of making things happen.

Keane is about the 15th player Collingwood are in to, so I would love to know where we are getting the draft capital to bring all these reported players to the club.
I am sure in most cases, it is just managers using us to drive up their client's salary.

The ONLY circumstances I'd let him go, is if it got us something that we could package up (eg a 1st rd to go with ours) to get a pick up the order and get draper, or trade for a mid eg mccluggage
When is he out of contract? Correct this if it's wrong, but Collingwood delisted him. I believe that all delisted players are automatically UFA at the end of any contract. So would Collingwood need to trade for him?

Nvm it's already being discussed.

Footywire, which is about the closest thing to a reliable public source there is on contract stuff, suggests Keane would be a restricted free agent: https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/to-adelaide-crows

It's not a guarantee, but until we get additional information it's what I'll go on.
Well he is under contract to the end of next year & we are not likely to let him go next trade season.

More likely we extend his contract & put him on our main list before the end of the season.

Doubt he is going anywhere else soon.
