The venue didn't have lights? WTF? Talking about Noarlunga oval?

I've watched a few games there under lights.

There's lighting and there's lighting. Maybe the lights at Noarlunga aren't up to the standard required by the AFL? They're probably OK for lower standard games, or AFL training, but not AFL games? Just a suggestion (not a statement of fact).

That could be true, because if we've learned anything from watching this game, we know the AFL hold themselves to high standards

I know it’s only the preseason and things change, but we were right up there with the least impressive teams.

Throw in the fact we are trying to bed down a new game plan that’s just not going to click from rd 1 because the seasons started, plus we’ve got limited depth due to the previous coaches negligence, then there isn’t a lot to look forward to besides hopefully watching the kids develop. Let’s wait until we see how long we persist with Gibbs and whether Mackay’s picked.

Freo, Saints and Melbourne who were below us will be better than us this year. Then it’s just a matter what Gold Coast, Sydney and North do to how low we finish.

You're right, we have looked very ordinary during the preseason and Friday just capped off just how bad we look. The score in the end definitely flattered us, to put it bluntly Gold Coast beat us all over the field.

If the Suns can manage 1/2 to 3/4 of the season playing to the level that they've been playing in the pre-seaon then they're a big chance to finish about us.

I honestly don't see us winning more than 6 games this year and think the spoon will end up being between us, GC and North Melbourne and going by form during the pre-season, we'd have to be close to being favorites to finish 18th.

The longer Brad crouch remains unsigned and if it looks like he will go, It really won't hurt long term if we did finish bottom 4 or even bottom 2 this year as we could end up with 2 x top 5 picks (ours + the B Crouch RFA pick) and have a teens pick and a very early 20's pick + maybe Edwards and Borlace after that - assuming we were to not butcher the picks, then we could be set up for the future very nicely with the youth we have taken in the last few drafts

Would need to lock Reid in a cage without a phone so he can't trade our top five picks away for a bunch of magic beans.

I think it's best if we don't make an attractive offer to Brouch just yet. Let the season play out and see where we will be on the ladder, if we're bottom 4 we really have to consider letting him go. If we finish last it might even force our hand. Picks 1 AND 2? Yes please...

you can gaurentee the AFL will not allow us to have 2 top 5 picks they'll think of some bullshit to give us an 'end of first round' pick which will be pushed out but a heap of NGA picks.

Edwards would want to fall off a cliff form wise to still be available in the late 20's, for the record I expect him elevate his form not go backwards with all the talk he'll be moving from largely half back last season to midfield for the U18's Championships this season. He's right in 1st round contention for mine, maybe even top 10 or better.

It is good to hear that and if he does transition to the midfield in the champs, it makes the potential loss of B Crouch going forward less damaging (as good as B Crouch is and I really like him as a player) - especially if we ended up with a top 5 pick for him as an RFA. That might give us 2 high picks before a bid for Edwards comes in which could really set up up

Totally agree, AFL has form and Ellis last year is a prime example, went for 5 year contract on big money, is all discretion - simply the concensus was that he's just not that good.

All the noise around Crouch last year from Melbourne was exactly that, doesn't matter the deal, doesn't matter the rules, he's not worth a top 5 pick.

Crows bad luck, b&f not rated until he's in Melbourne, then he'll be the recruit of the year.

Sounds like the lights would have been fine for our game on Friday then. ;)

No one believed James Frawley was worth a top 5 pick either but Melbourne got one for him

Was at a time the AFL were trying to provide extra assistance to the Dees. ;)

There is a points based formula they use based on age from 25 onwards and size contract offered..

they dont just make it up as they go along..

brad will be 26 and if hes offered a contract over $800k it is difficult to see the crows not getting a pick straight after their first..

the AFL are massively vic centric and there are probably victorian element within the organisation that secretly hate the adelaide crows but i think some of the conspiracy theories that some of us crows supporters come up with arent anywhere close to reality..

Picks don't necessarily have a consistent value. The question is more whether the players that we're likely to obtain are more valuable in the long run.

For sure and the question you pose is the great unknown. Hypothetically if we finish 16th and get pick 3 and b crouch leaves on big money..we should get pick 4. I don't know what the recruiters think of the top 4 rated kids but it does give us close to first access x 2 to the entire draft pool and you would hope there are some great kids there

Ok, not so much as I thought.

I still think we won't get a pick straight after our first.

Oh, they'll give us a pick after our first...

...but then give start of first round priority picks to whichever club(s) finishes below us.
