My Tips for this round are:

Dunolly V Avoca. Avoca will win by 8 or more goals have a greater spread of good players. Expect Dunolly to be competitive throughout the game, but will drop off the pace. Could be proven wrong though...

Newstead V Talbot ..Will be interesting to see how Newstead are shaping up this year, would be very disappointing for us to drop this game..

Harcourt V Royal Park ..Harcourt to win by 10+ goals, they have lost some but will still be too classy for bushy.

Maldon V Campbell’s Creek : Similar scenario to the above game could really blow out , difficult to judge teams in round one.

same as you sherman this week. avoca should have too many good players over the park, although will wait and see how dunolly go, good luck to em. Your boys have probably got match of the round status IMO, newstead being the up and improving side with you guys having recruited well. talbot by 5 goals. harcourt will probably beat bushy, but it won't be by much. prefer to be playing them round 1 as apposed to newstead really. and maldon should account for creek fairly easily. Let's hope for a good and competitive year!!

Dunolly
V Avoca - Definitely the match of the round

Avoca are coming off two strong seasons and have got some great recruits from all acounts. Dunolly are the great unknown, could be anything IMO.

Dunolly's forward line with Motlop, Sanders, McNamee and Burn will be pretty hard to stop if they get a good amount of delivery from their on ballers.

Would love to see the two new big names in Motlop and Feild going head to head in the middle of the ground at some stage.

I'm going with the under dog as i think it would be fantastic if they can get up. Will need to be on their game for it to happen though.

Newstead V Talbot

Word is Newstead has recruited well and have been doing the work on the track. I would expect them to win this game quiet easily.

In the past Talbot have always been slow starters and aren't known for big pre seasons. Last year or the one before, Rovers gave Talbot a lesson in football in the season openner. Could be proved wrong though.

Harcourt
V Royal Park

I think Royal Park will improve a lot this year. I expect them to win more games then they did last year, unfortunately this won't be one of them.

Harcourt should get over the line just purely by being a more experianced and accomplished side.

Maldon V Campbell’s Creek

Maldon should win this one very easily if they are going to be anything like last year.

Hopefully CC have picked up a bit and make the game a close one!

Newstead v Talbot will be the close one I would think. Both sides have plenty of new players and whoever gels better first up will win this game!

Avoca will defeat Dunolly. Avoca have a solid unit of players who have played together for a few years now. Dunolly will be competitive.

Harcourt by 10 goals over bushy.

Maldon by 10+ goals over creek.

Well done on the fixture change.... a great initiative by the clubs to support the Rovers football club! Good luck to all teams this weekend!

You are right here Egor but expect Talbot to be pretty fit and firing early this year. They have had a very solid pre-season and should be ready to go. I think they were looking forward to taking on Avoca first up, but Newstead will be a massive challenge in its own right... especially at Newstead.

Hey guys..can anyone from trentham or anywhere tell me where young gun Rory Healy is playing his footy??

He has been cleared to the Riddell League.

Interesting to see Daniel Pavlou is coming back to Harcourt. PLayed a few years ago for them and is a very good player in this league. Will help cover a few losses for them.

Yeh, the boy can play, capable of kicking a freakish goal......good pick-up for the apple eaters.

Purely to start some convo on here. My ladder for '09. Wouldn't be surprised if it is way off the mark but its a starting point. Very hard to tell at this time of the year!

1. Avoca
2. Newstead
3. Carisbrook
4. Talbot
5. Harcourt
6. Maldon
7. Dunolly
8. Rovers
9. Royal Park
10. Campells Creek
11. Trentham

Time to re-evaluate as we are closer to the season. I think some recruiting has changed the way the ladder will look.

1. Avoca
2. Carisbrook
3. Dunolly
4. Newstead
5. Talbot
6. Harcourt
7. Maldon
8. Royal Park
9. Rovers
10. Campells Creek
11. Trentham

Bit of a stab in the dark but it should be around the mark i think

Dunolly would want to hope they can live up to all these expectations people are putting on them.

The thing to remember is that Dunolly where around 20 goals off the pace last year from the top teams down to 5th..Have they recruited that well to bridge the gap and finish 3rd???...One thing to remember is that not all these recruits will play every week...

I wish them all the best and its great to see them improving but i think some of us might be getting a little carried away, just my opinion though. Avoca are a proven team who has been very consitent over the last few seasons and i still expect them to account for Dunolly. Coggy is a massive loss for them as he provides a spark like no other and brad hunts versatility will also be missed, but Julian Field is a massive pick up for the doggies and will show his class on centre stage friday night.

I hope the whole community gets behind the game and rushes through the gates as it promises to be a great spectacle...

Sherman, the expectations from within the club are fairly humble. We would like to keep beating the teams we did last year and add a few more teams to that list which would put us in the area of playing September footy.

We will be better than last year. Our young team is another year older and had a year of playing footy with some success and structure. The training attendances are better this year and the quality of training is higher due to people like J Mac, Sanders, Lee Stewart, Shupan and co lifting the bar.

Motlop is the only recruit that will not play every week. The other 3 Wanderers are living down here.

Friday night should be a great spectacle with two of the higher quality players getting around in any District Footy.

There is no doubt u have been keeping a lid on it johnny personally and from the clubs perspective but as mentioned the wider community is certainly backing u boys to be up amongst it come september. Its great to see a positive reaction coming from the hard work you have done but as stated i just feel that some may be expecting more from Dunolly than the club itself this season.

Wasnt actually aware that those other Wanderers boys would be down all season so that will help the cause for sure.

Agree. We'll rate our success internally but it is hard when other teams and the public automatically assume we'll be a September team. We're talking about a team that went 6 & 12 last year and had a total of 6 wins before that since 2002.

Avoca, Talbot and Brook should be the teams to beat this year.

All clubs like to keep a lid on it at this stage of the year. I would imagine with your current recruiting you would be extremely disappointed not to play finals. You have obviously spent a bit more this year and have recruited a number of quality players. Gets a bit boring when you keep playing a straight bat Johnny!!! :)

Sorry for the boredom.

I'd be hoping for September action. No doubt there. As you guys would be hoping for a GF appearance with 20 new recruits, a maintained list and obviously spending a bit more.;)

WTF!!!!! YOU IDIOT!!!!!

You might want to watch what you post in different forums. I read the RDFL and this one. And you have been all over Rory going to Lancefield, infact, you have even put him (Rory, (YOURSELF)) in the leagues of other BFNL players going to that club!!

Big reality check mate, your okish at footy for a young bloke but stop pissing in your own pocket and earn respect from other footballers the right way!! Being honest and modest can go a long way.;)

Talbot will finish in the top 3! I have no doubt! Good luck to the Hawks this weekend... hope they pull the steader's pants down! ;)

Avoca & Dunolly will be playing off for the Geoff Calder memorial cup tonight. This has gone under the radar a bit due to the short notice of the changes made in the first round. This will be played off by all 3 grades of football and 5 grades of netball, whoever wins majority of games will retain the cup. It looks to be a fantastic season opener with a lot of hype going around about both teams. Good luck to all teams playing this weekend

Lets get some more hype into this game... Traditional rivals from Lexton League days, some of the best games have been seen between these two teams in the past. Avoca Number 1 contenders for the flag this season, Dunolly looking for their first Finals appearance in many years, and first GF appearance since 1995 when they lost to Avoca. Along with this we have the AFL (plus 2 ex-SANFL players) vs VFL star.... Motlop Vs Field. Looks to be an enthralling showdown if the two get to play on each other throughout the match.

We all know how good Avoca are, they pretty much have been on or around the mark for a few years now but we all want to know if Dunolly could be the "Great White" hope, coming from the footy doledrums, where they were close to extinction a couple of years ago, so winning games again last season to hopefully pushing for a finals birth this year.

So bring you partners, kids, thermos and cars and get behind the season launch, its warming as a cracking match and I'm sure we'll see whether Dunolly's Premiership odds are worth it or whether it will be another tough year ahead. Its going to be a great first up hitout between two traditional rivals.

Who wouldn't want to see a packed house at Princes Park? What better things are there to do watch Brisbane on TV?

Good call Meltdown.

Just wondering if there is any thruth to the rumour that a young bloke in the Brad Johnson mould - Sam Dalton - will be prowling the forwardline for the creekers. Seen him play before, he is a powerful and exciting player. Will turn heads.

Avoca defeated Dunolly by 12 pts in a high quality contest. Motlop's opening goal worth the price of admission alone.
Talbot ran over Newstead in the final quarter after leading by a point at 3/4 time in a close physical contest.
Any other results?

Talbot by 4 points I believe so the boys told me. 10 new players in the senior line-up from last year and Prickles is not in the side as yet. Twos won by close to 100 points.

I'm not one to whinge about websites because people work hard to get them up and running. But why are there no results on there on a Saturday night?? Have always been before and it is one of the draw cards to the website to get up to date info! We might as well attach the results to carrier pigeons again! Seriously... how hard is it to enter the results oh great Ballarat Hub!!!

Motlop was just average in his performance I hear... is that right?? Dunolly would be happy with that performance on the big stage. How did Field play??
