Saw a good match at Trenm today with Maldon getting up by 3 goals in the end. just a mention for the umps who done the 2s game. done a fantastic job and should be well commended. very unbiased effort by the Trenm and Maldon club umpires who allowed the game to flow and made good calls all game..Welldone

With the season a few weeks in now, is there anyone that seems to be suprising anyone or do we all think that the 5 will even out as expected?

Avoca are looking the goods at this early stage and would be a monty for a top 2 spot, Rovers may be a little better than a lot of people thought having knocked off Newstead already, Newstead have dropped a couple but with players to come back and as the perforance against Avoca shows should win enough to finish top 3 along with Carisbrook.

So who will be the one to pinch a top 5 spot? Maldon have started the season well, Dunolly are still competitive and suprising everyone is Creek that are "undefeated"!

Competitive season ahead.

wouldnt be to worried about the steader boys out there guys looks like season has just began for couple of the boys so keep posted they could be better then last year

Tips for tomorrow boys?

Avoca v Harcourt
Maldon v Royal Park
Creek v Talbot - Could go either way though
Carisbrook v Dunolly
Rovers v Trentham

Agree with these tips. Worried about the Talbot game as they still have some key personnel out and have usually struggled at Creek even when they were whipping boys for some reason. Hopefully they can chalk up their first win of the year.

Good start to the season for the Maine Man's predictions. Long way to go though.

Clint McCleod heading back to Creek this week which will add plenty to the side.

Hard to see a side starting 4-0 and not making the finals. Big day today.

Probably wouldnt hurt if you took a bit more notice of all results. Creek have done well but you would have to say have had a very favourable draw and although they may win today they could easily loose next 5 games. Their chances of playing finals will be shown after they have played everyone. As for Clint Mcleod, he is a handy player but committment is not his forte with your club castlemaine being the latest to be let down by him becuase things werent easy enough. Also to say Newstead is not making finals is obviously the thoughts of a shit dribbler as their form is still pretty good against good opposition in favourites Avoca and an improved Rovers who caught them on an off day.

i agree, think the creek might get a reality check

went out to see the rovers play today the first time for a couple of years normaly watch a little more of the BFL. Was veery impressed with the rovers the won alot of ball out of the middle and used the ball very well not sure of many names but 20 15 i think were the better players for the day for them. Terntham on the other hand used the footy terrible after 1/4 time they were never in it. big mention to 2 players on the day one from each team were rovers ruckman gave them first use to the footy it helped them win so many clerances. and trenthams fullforward carter i think, although i think i sat next to his mum and she didnt think he played to well. but to kick 5 from CHF in a lossing team is good going. would like to see them in interleage selctions if they play an interlegue game with some good delivery. the umpires also did a fantastic job even the club umpires in the 2s its good to see the league stepping up.

Maineman you really are struggling to come to grips with the fact that yes your team plays in a major league, but they are the worst club in said comp and that playing for Castlemaine does not make you automatically a good player in the MCDFL!! Did Clint McLeod even play seniors in there?

As for the tips, a couple there are looking good with Avoca and Carisbrook but you can forget Talbot making the 5, and we will see where the Creek are at once they have played Avoca, Carisbrook, Newstead, Rovers, Dunolly and Maldon; because they will be lucky to get within 5 - 6 goals any of them.

Not sure what the Castlemaine results have to do with this but anyway Clint played seniors first game then got the flu and missed a week and hadn't been able to get back in.

Has there ever been anyone who was a senior player at Castlemaine of any description that hasn't been a 'good' player in the MCDFL?

Not being condescending there but all the blokes I can think of that have played Seniors for Castlemaine that have gone to a district club have been pretty good players at that level.

Its the insinuation that if you play for Castlemaine you are automatically a good player... Your point may have been well made in the past when they were stronger, and their better players would of course be good in the lower league, but there are a ot of guys playing senior footy in there that should not be and would only "just" be players out here.

This has been shown by the good showing of McMurtrie who was a good player out here but by no means an out and out gun, and he is now tearing it up in there over more highly fancied team mates along with a couple of other similar former MCDFL players.

Evil how about you just dont post anymore as you no nothing about football
if i have the right person i believe you were a guy who was scared to go in and get the hard ball and that you recieved many a good splinter in ur ass from wearing the pine down with so many bench appearances.

Would like to see a line up something like this:

FB: S. Timmins T. Ronke J. Anderson

HB: M. Kelly K. Dingo S. Sellers

C: S. Kerr I. Martin M. Giri

HF: J. Harris M. Ramsay M. Peake

FF: N. Webster J. Guthrie D. Carroll

Foll: B. Hedger J. Field N. Robinson

INT: T. Bright E. Ford L. Stewart

The squad seems to be lacking a geniune key forward with Guthrie not being a tall forward and Mark Ramsey is predominately a backmen. Has played forward maybe a quarter this year. No idea how you could have picked Prickles and Giri in your team as they are not even in the squad and Prickles with his knee injuries would struggle a bit for pace I think anyway.

The only reason I swapped Bright for Lockwood is because Jules is able to play forward aswell and having a forward set up with Ramsey you will definitely need some back up if things do not go his way. Would love to see him at CHF as he is definitely the best backmen in the league but dont know who else from that squad will play CHF. Any ideas?

I think you will find that neither Guthrie or Timmins were named in the squad. Timmins should be included though as he has had a great start to the year, Guthrie too has kicked a few goals but i'd be looking to a larger forward perhaps the other Hedger or Pilgrim from Avoca to fill that spot if he finds some form beforehand.

Id be more inclined to have Dingo on a back flank or wing rather than CHB. Given the LPFL have named both the Beacham boys in their squad, i think big bodies in the key back positions will be a must. Maybe Fraser at FB and Ramsey at CHB.

Any room in there for any of the Trenm boys?
