Skipton have gained the services of BIG man Brent Trotter who formally played at Port Adelaide I've been told. How good does the guy go?

if getting drunk and taking off ya shirt in the middle of the pub means anything, yeah, maybe he was from port adelaide! good luck skipton!

What was the verdict from last nights meeting Wonker & Co?? Creek in or out?

Which draw has been adopted?? Any other developments??

The verdict so far is the probability of creek reforming seem to be getting more remote. They had a crisis meeting last night - don't know how that went. Said they had a few numbers but only about six hitting the training track. A final decision will be made next Thursday and the outcome announced on Friday. They have a full compliment of netball sides except for U14's. Unfortunately it will be to ther detriment of the netballers if Creek don't get up and going. At this stage it looks like no creek which means the league will need to revert to a 10 club draw. The 10 club draw was tabled last night which is completely different from the one listed on the MCDFL web site. I know that Avoca are drawn to play Talbot at Talbot on the advertised starting date of 5th April. That will mean no Friday blockbuster at the park against Rovers King. To cover the loss of the bye the league is looking at a split round mid season.
On the grounds situation - many grounds would fail the test at the moment. Still an issue - only way out is to pray for rain otherwise alternate ground arrangements will need to be considered.
I would say that league secretary Rod Ward will put the new draw on the web next Friday if Creek don't come up with the numbers.

I see Joel Smith for Harcourt has a clearance into Castlemaine. He along with Joel Evans were listed as interchange players in last year's premiership side, while Jayson Wilson was named in the forward pocket. I see Evans and Wilson have been cleared due to Time Limit.

Always nice to see Harcourt potentially weaker..... They always seem to come up trumps when the season comes around though. I was under the impression that the decision about Creek was to be made last night??? If they are only getting 6 on the track then it's lights out IMO. I am a big supporter in getting them up and running but they've had enough time to get this going... it wont happen. Very sad but league must move on!

It's a shame that we still cannot have a Friday night game of some sort. Any reason why this cant occur?? The draw that I had sent to me Wonker says we play Avoca on the 19th of April??? No amount of rain will get some grounds up... clubs need to source the water themselves and get it on. Talbot are being more pro-active with this this year. There is plenty of water around.... just need to organise to cart it to the ovals. This topic frustrates me! I will be disappointed if we dont start on time again.

I think it has been mentioned before but how does Hughes Lakey and Grant from Newbridge to Avoca go as footballers?

Aswell Dallas Coghill from Wedderburn???

Will they replace Hunt, Tapner, Wardlaw etc

Reports suggest- Lakey very good, Hughes quite good and grant just good if I remember correctly. Grant may struggle to play seniors.

Dallas Coghill is no gun from what I can gather. Nuggety hard at it type player. If I remember what I've been told that is! :)

Is Wardlaw hanging them up too???

From reports I've heard wardlaw is hanging them up but they are gaining the services of his brother/cousin/nephew/niece some sort of relative who goes good not sure what relation can't follow the elaborate Avoca Family trees.

For a start Lakey was the best defender in the LVFL. Hughes is a very solid running defender/onballer who can sometimes play key position on much taller opponents.

As for Grant. This guy was BOG in prelim final with broken nose last year. That's got to tell you something about the guy for a start. Also competing in Athletics over the summer to improve fitness and pace.

These three come from the LVFL runners up. All were regular senior players in a league far better then this one.

According to Reiney, your coach "Prickles Martin" is not too keen on night matches as he wears contact lenses.

it is sad about creek. i heard a rumour brian walsh has already walked away from the coaching duties and the club has already paid him a $7500 dollar sign up fee

I have heard Prickles say that about his contacts.... but highly doubt this would be a deciding factor in the club playing a night game.

Handy pickups there for Avoca..... They may struggle to kick goals still though... all those boys seem to be defenders and onballers.

His name is Ray Wardlaw (second cousin to Mick once removed I believe)- hasn't played football before. Trained in the bluntstones the first couple of training sessions but seemed to move very well.

The Avoca club had a guy once that could kick a few goals - alias the Mothman. He would be the only guy I know of that could rewrite the league's history books by kicking the ton for two different clubs in the MCDFL.

I hear he is contemplating a move to the major league club Stawell. Hope he goes well.

Interesting way to entice an old player back Wonker. I think that record has already been achieved though. Cheif Mason @ Carisbrook and Royal Park. To name one.

I looked through 'The centuries' post and this feat wasn't listed. Then that list only had Shane Field credited with one ton when in fact he achieved the feat on three occassions. If you are correct (and I wouldn't for one moment question your integrity) it would still be a pretty exclusive club to be a member of
Perhaps Todman could do little more research and produce an updated centuries list.

I'm not too sure how many Avoca players have kicked the ton during the period spent in the Lexton Football League. I'm sure my old mate Bucko could help me out here.

Only two Wonker!

Gerard Darcy 115 in 82 and Jim Jess 103 in 1993.

Although there is some conjecture wether Brian Coghlan kicked 100. League Records say that he kicked 99.
He kicked 8 goals in a game against Amphitheatre in 1969 to reach his ton. But that game had to be replayed because the timekeepers got on the turps and stuffed it up.
He only kicked 7 in the replay so was credited with 99.

Gerard Darcy also holds the record for most goals in a game. 22 vs Moonambel in 1982 playing as a rover. Ghost kicked 20 vs Landsborough in 93.

Avoca’s top 10 goalscorers.

1982 – Gerard Darcy – 115
1993 – Jim Jess – 103
1969 – Brian Coghlan – 99
1996 – Malcolm Scott – 96
1953 – Ian Grant – 89
1954 – Ian Grant – 87
1971 – Rob Astbury – 84
1946 – Ron French – 82
1956 – Ian Grant – 80
1997 – Robert Redpath – 79
2007 – Nick Coghlan - 79

Has the draw been finalised yet Wonker??? Feels like this league is about the last every year to confirm their draw! Be nice to know when we are playing!! We could potentially be playing within a month but who knows!!!
