I thought Cox was great today. But just a word of caution,he was up against a very weak Essendon defence today. He just might be found out against West Coast next week, and everyone will be calling for his head and saying he's a dud.
He is a work in progress as far as I'm concerned. As long as he offers a target and competes in the ruck I'm happy. Sure he will have games with 0 goals 3 touches but I'm under no illusion he is learning the game and will take time like every forward

Was just going to say that :thumbsu:

Much more physical against WCE defence.

Footy is a simple game, have a big 7 foot mobile FF in the square and kick it to him, have some decent crumbers below, how can it fail ?.

Exactly. He doesn't need to kick a bag of goals. We just need him to sit in front of goals and compete at marking contests. Just his height alone will cause headaches for the opposition.

Sorry to intrude but I see Cox as more of a ruckman who rucks no more than half the game. He can get pushed around to easily as shown a bit today with Leuenberger.
I also don't think you could fit in Cox, Moore, Cloke, Howe and Grundy. Just a tad tall for my liking.
Does anyone here reckon Moore could possibly play back? And in the preseason I heard talk about Howe playing on a wing

Cloke would need to reinvent himself as a backman in that scenario... No chance Darcy Moore is leaving our forward line... He never misses!!

Need to be patient, Cox will have really good games and really bad games but since Leigh Brown we have looked for that forward ruckman which I think with time we finally have now.

We'll all get found out next week; Cox will be just a face in the crowd in all likelihood. I'd love to see us beat West Coast in Perth but I'm being realistic. At this stage I can live with a decent showing over there and then come back and beat the tankers and the AFL Lions.

Completely agree. I think we need to respect the difficulty of the role too. He doesn't need to star just play his part. I reckon he has a great combination of playing qualities which will see him do well.

So good today.... Gives our mids first use of it and has the agility and speed not to be a liability around his feet.

I'd be seriously tempted to bring Cloke back in (Grundy out) and run Cox as 1st ruck with Moore as backup.

Thoughts?

Grundy still is our Best Ruckman and Why bring Cloke in when he is in Terrible Form and does not Deserve a AFL game after the VFL Game

I don't agree...at all.
Ok around the ground but gets absolutely towelled in the ruck. Would much prefer a combination of Cox and Moore. At least they give our mids first use.

EDIT: To be fair, Plugger Lockett in his prime would have been lucky to kick more than 2 goals in our VFL game..... It never went near the forward line all day.

Cox was great today.

I hope we can all keep this in mind if and when he has a stinker in the not too distant future.

We must persist with him, even when he does have a bad game.

Grundy is a good tall player around the ground

In the actual ruck contests though he is way below average.

Mostly loses the hit-outs and the ones he gets have low impact

Mason is a gun!
He looks agile for a man of his size.
The giant actually bent over today and scooped up the ball on the run, whilst under pressure. He's exactly what we've needed since Jolly.

And yeah, he'll have a few stinkers, but so does everyone. He's still learning the craft, and the mere fact that he's already played a game in the seniors shows me that he's prepared to learn, and that's enough to be excited about.

Well done Mason!

He will definitely have bad games this year. But it will be a learning curve. That's why I think Collingwood should start developing him now and prepare him for next season.

I remember people where saying same thing about Saindlands early in his Career

Well let's hope his development has a sharp incline then.

Sandilands can also take marks
I nearly fell off my chair when Grundy held that mark in the forward 50 today.

Then failed to convert the goal :drunk:

Permission to post on your board ....I hope its accepted.

I was so excited to see the Big Fella kick the first goal of the game.
I yelled yes when he took the mark.

Heart in mouth .... come on.... come on fairy tail stuff ...nail it big fella .

He slots its .

Dick head ( yeah thats me ) jumps up screams you " F@*&Ing beauty."

Wife come into the lounge room... says "I though Collingwood were playing Essendon , what with the excitement !!!???? "

I reply " an American in his first ever game kicks a goal with his first ever kick ... how f@*&ing goods that !!! "

Wife looks at me and shakes her head...... alas not for the first time... and doubt its going to be the last. ;)

Jest aside . What a wonderful debut and a nod of approval to your Club for having the vision and balls to recruit him.

As we have said for a decade or so in the West we love ......Big Cox.

Well done Pies . :thumbsu:
This is a post from a person who loves footy purely for the glory of our great game, all prejudices cast aside. Well done, Sir, well done. :thumbsu:
