Masten the sub

I thought he was a poor choice for a sub, because as a general rule I think you want your sub to be an 'impact' player. I probably would have preferred Strijk.

But Masten ended up with 15 disposals and a goal. Given he was subbed midway through the third quarter, that's a pretty good return. But it's pretty hard to judge the last quarter, because the Bulldogs pretty much just gave up. It became a training drill.

What is the general consensus?

Mostly I was just happy he didn't get injured
It wasn't a coincidence that Masten was subbed on in the middle of the 3rd and the fact we started our run about the middle of the 3rd.

I thought he was the spark that detonated that unanswered 50 goal run til the final whistle. And he's been showing signs of breaking through. Little steps, little steps...

Like you though, there was a question mark on his ability to impact a sub. Full credit to Masten and to the coaching staff who managed it.

I think the 10-20 min mark of the 3rd term is a good time to release the sub don`t agree with the sub just getting the 4th quarter .

Masten actually hit the ground running and that shot on goal I was hoping he didn`t stuff it up and he didn`t let the team down which was good ..

He did really well. Now I want to see him back up and play well again next week. So far the weakness in his game has been lack of consistency (and his facial hair). If he backs up he has turned the corner

I think Masten will get a spot in the 21 this weekend and I am actually impressed with how he went for a comeback game. Who will make way, I can't say but you never know. Personally, I am a bit of a fan of his hair because I find it more iconic than Lynchy's glove and he looks more french than Lecca with his mo. Keep improving and keep the haircut Masto!

and that cocaine dealer like mushache.

there was a play where shuey got then end on one for a goal where masten was actually running down the mainwaring wing flat out from D50 into F50, no one handballed it to him but just to see the work rate was pleasing.

Saw the same thing. Brilliant work rate. And hadn't realised until then how quick he actually is.

Absolutely ran his guts out to provide an option, even when he wasn't used all the time. Was good to see him get a bit of the ball, because he was running to all the right spots.

And very precise disposal by foot. What is going on?

Apologies for intrusion, great win by your boys on the W/E.
Re Masten, I hadn't notice before just how stylish his kicking action is, looks like a left footer the way he drops the ball and follows through. He had a few injuries yeah, but looks the goods to me. Eagles have smashed the last few drafts IMO.....Still can't believe other clubs, mine included, passed on Darling....He's a flipping ripper!
Gaff will prob be the best of all your recruits I reckon, another classy left footer.
Great to see Ash Smith come too, remember him from the pre-draft vids a few years back and liked the look of him a lot.
Hope the Eagles give it a good shake this week and beyond, great side to watch at the moment.

Masten's kicking has always been good. His problem seems to be making bad decisions or trying to be a bit too tricky. I don't think he has a very long kick so he tries to pinpoint a short pass when it's not on. He was also a bit hit and miss in his first few years and people would always focus on the bad shanks and ignore that mostly his kicking was better than average IMO.

His biggest problem (other than injuries, lack of confidence and being played HFF in a terrible team of course) has been his lack of strength and inability to break a tackle. Maybe this was due to his OP though.

I'm still confident if he's fit he will be a good player.

Fair enough. Cheers for the feedback.

For some reason i laughed when masten went for his sprint down the wing. I saw it happen from the outset, then priddis got the ball and still handballed onwards ignoring masten. I loved the run though was very impressed, he just needs to yell louder :p

The most impressive thing was, it wasn't just one. He actually had about 2 other long back-half-to-forward-half runs where he wasn't used. Not sure if it was visible on TV though.

I prefer Nu-Hitler. A Very hipster/tragic look.

Why did the Hipster cross the road?
Oh, you haven't heard?

How many Hipsters does it take to change a light globe?
It was pretty exclusive.

A Hipster walks into a bar you haven't heard of before...

Hipster Hitler?
