It wasn't a coincidence that Masten was subbed on in the middle of the 3rd and the fact we started our run about the middle of the 3rd.I thought he was a poor choice for a sub, because as a general rule I think you want your sub to be an 'impact' player. I probably would have preferred Strijk.
But Masten ended up with 15 disposals and a goal. Given he was subbed midway through the third quarter, that's a pretty good return. But it's pretty hard to judge the last quarter, because the Bulldogs pretty much just gave up. It became a training drill.
What is the general consensus?
Mostly I was just happy he didn't get injured
I thought he was the spark that detonated that unanswered 50 goal run til the final whistle. And he's been showing signs of breaking through. Little steps, little steps...
Like you though, there was a question mark on his ability to impact a sub. Full credit to Masten and to the coaching staff who managed it.
