His issue is his weight/strength, he is too light to impact hitouts. If I was the club I would put him through a pre-season like bulk-up during the season and just play him forward where he doesn't have to run a lot... otherwise it might take him 2 or 3 years to hit a weight division that will give him a chance to compete.

He has the talent, he can take a mark, can kick goals but as soon as you put him on an AFL defender or ruckman he is going to struggle to have impact imo.
I think the coaches have the same idea. Has started to add some decent weight. Still needs more.

And the vfl backline noticeably improved once he came on. Probably had another 10 disposals across 25 minutes.

Per involvement I thought he looked better than Perez and would edge him for selection.

Lachie tends to be judged as filler on here while Perez is seen through a very selective filter at times.

Lachie and Bons are ahead of a few atm.

Lachie just knows his game and tries to keep it simple.

Am I seriously seeing negativity on this board? We look much improved compared to last season! Some errors but boy you’ll never be pleased if you are sitting in a match sim upset.
I reckon if you're upset by that, you need to reflect on your expectations.

It's chalk and cheese compared to last year.

For one there is a genuine system. You could see clearly what we were trying to do both defensively and offensively. When was the last time anyone could say that?

Richmond seemed to score a lot when they went inside 50 and won their fair share of clearances. That's a recipe for a beating but the defense seems to be a high press. Especially when defending the rebound. Interested to see how it goes.

However I'd say the offense has gotten a new make over, ball movement felt clean, sure there were mistakes. But the team has always been built for fast high-risk ball movement. You don't put players like LDU, Curtis, Powell and Goater on a team and tell them to play safe footy. If kicking for goal was even the usual for the team 90+ points would've been put on

The entire team still has a long way to go I'd say but they are showing some signs of improvement. There were far fewer handpasses to the feet of teammates but there were still plenty that sold the next bloke into trouble. A lot of kicks went to contests. There weren't a lot of well constructed forward movements where leading players were able to mark relatively easily.

North's tall forwards didn't really seem to know where to run to as the balls were coming in as random bombs for the most part.

North players weren't first to the ball as often as Richmond players however, there were some decent tackles. A bit more time in the weights room is needed for a fair few of team though. Nothing new about that.

Id certainly like to see a bit more beefcake on the field (NTTAWWT). I seriously would not be that embarrassed to stand alongside about 70% of the team.

I'm guessing that the way footy is going these days, fast open play is something that both sides want to avoid. Scrappy, scrambled movements and a hoik forward when all other options have dried up is the way to go. Richmond did make a few clean breaks though and those worried me the most. North really didn't have the tools to deal with those fast transitions. At least, not together on the ground today.

But ...

What would they learn from an easy win or an uncontested shoot out? Not much.

I think there are a good few lessons to learn from the game today. They need to continue with creating a viable handball option whenever a teammate enters a contest for the ball.

They need some better composure when they mark or win a free (my estimate is that about 60% today were played on when the players didn't have a clue if they were actually clear which resulted in scrambled kicks and the forwards being uncertain of what was coming in almost every time).

The defence wasn't always tight. Blokes were a fair way off the Richmond forwards - maybe preferring a zone defence. At the other end North forwards looked to be picking up the defenders instead of trying to get loose. Maybe that's just modern football.

Both sides appeared to be trying though, so it seemed like a decent work out.

The biggest downer of the day was having to watch Bonar still masquerading as an AFL footballer.

Has no defensive skills.
Slow as a wet rag.
No urgency in anything he does.
Has no offensive skills and offers no run off half back.

Please let this did play out his remaining contract in the VFL.
