Dimma said in the double page spread on Sunday he was likely to play 22 games in 2012. With Batch the same, and Morris apparently impressing are we likely to go with a backline of

Morris Rance Grimes
Dea Post/Ast Batch

What would that mean for our midfield?

Probably that Lids would play predominantly as a mid (can't wait!) as well as Newman and Houli perhaps playing as outside mids using their dash and raking pin point kicks to lay them on the chest of Jack and Vick :thumbsu:

I would expect one of Newman, Lids or Houli to still take the kick ins though - Batch is probably the best kick of the above back 6 but Dimma would probably want a more experienced head to be kicking them to Ivan ;) (though Batch just oozes confidence and and class so probably wouldn't have any issues dealing with the pressure)

Dunno about the midfield but that would have to be one of the most inexperienced backlines in history!

Perhaps something to build towards for 2013 but IMO Chris Newman stays there for at least another season to add composure and experience.
Houli too slots in early next season.

The first guy 'released' back up the ground must be Deledio though...

This is what I was thinking, would mean guys like Grigg, Jackson, White, Edwards, Ellis, Helbig, Tuck, Webberly etc would be fighting for 1, maybe 2 spots.

Dimma never said 22 games in the one's. He just said (and I paraphrase) "he's fit and he should play 22 games". Didn't specify the level.

Given Matt has had two injury interrupted seasons I read that purely to mean that they wanted him on the park, playing footy and developing.

I expect him to play for both the tiges and Coburg but with a plan to play an entire season.

I have it on pretty good authority that Griff is being groomed as our CHB, not sure what this means for Astbury and Post.

The coaching staff have been indicating for a while that Griff will move into the backs, though whether this is for development or a long term move to protect his shoulders, who knows.

Not sure how thtis would actually work?

For mine I reckon it will start out:

B: Newman Rance Grimes
HB: Houli Post/Astbury Batchelor
Bench: 2 of Ellis Dea Morris

Newman and Houli will start down there as the experienced heads while Ellis Dea Batchelor & Morris develop an understanding of the gameplan and gain experience.

By seasons end I'm hoping it will be:

B: Morris/Dea Rance Grimes
HB: Newman Post/Astbury Batchelor
Bench: Morris/Dea

Newman remains as the general, Houli and Ellis have moved up the ground, leaving Morris Dea and Batchelor as the mediums, while I'm hoping that Rance Grimes and Post/Astbury establish themselves as our talls.

I'm pretty sure I heard Dimma mention Griff in the same sentence as the other talls as an option for down back in a recent interview (within last fortnight).

Good post, hope it plays out that way.

Here is the exact quote

"MATT DEA
This will be his third year and he's looked outstanding in the pre-season. He's a guy that injury free we expect to play 22 games. I'd be disappointed if he didn't play every game."

I would take that to mean senior games. I would expect that every player on the list who is injury free will play 22 games for the year somewhere or other.

I took it like that, but i thought it was a big call to say that a player who has probably played less games than an u9 boy, is going to play 22 games in the seniors. He must be burning the track up big time.

Stupid talk from Dimma..... How about suggesting to all players that if they train hard and "PERFORM" ..... and subsequently play to a standard that they deserve a spot in the side they too can play 22 games.

This building up players in the off season???? WHY.... let the players performances pick the spots on the ground. Probably not Dimma's intention but it smells of favouritism....

He said if he is fit he EXPECTS him to play 22 games which id take it to mean that they believe he is best 22 and they'd expect him to earn 22 games on form.

Will compete with Kelvin Moore for a spot. If he becomes the better player, he will play for Richmond.

That won't be hard if Moore can't get on the park.

Nobody so far has really commented much on Dea's performance because he hasn't played enough AFL games for anyone to be able to give a solid opinion. He didn't impress like Batchelor or Conca but on the other hand didn't do anything terrible either.
If the panel have faith in him then that is great, means he is busting his gut to be the best he can be...

I can't remember where he played in 2010, was he a defender?

I only remember seeing him play in defense.
