Did I miss something, or did he repeatedly mention his Sydney years and culture, repeatedly mention his GWS time and the culture there, but never once mentioned the 8 years in between?

That was pretty street-wise of him.

Or, he did say he is sticking to the positives, so maybe that's why he had nothing to say about the port years....
He did say he learned stuff from Hinkley, but I noticed that too.
Praised Sydney’s culture, praised gws’s culture, but ignored ports culture...

Says we won't pick players based on age. It's based on if they're willing to play for their mates, play their role. Already knew he is big on culture but he brought culture up a few times also.
Of course he is going to say this

He is not going to say that he wont be picking players over 30

If we're fair dinkum about this list "refresh" and "rejuvenation" we're talking about there is no way Mackay should play a single AFL game in 2020

Unfortunately we will all have to wait till late March on a Thursday evening as to the direction the Club takes.

It will speak volumes of what the expectations are in year 1 for us.

So, coaching from the bench or from the stands?

My money's on the bench. Just like his boss did all this year.

I actually didnt mind Pyke's strategy of sitting in coaches box initially and then heading down after during the 1st quarter. It made sense.

I'm not saying there is right or wrong, but I'm guessing which way Nicksy will go.

Got the impression from the presser that game day will be "me and my boys against the world", and he will want to be right in it with them.

2021 beyond i 100% agree
But we don’t have the time to get the coaching panel he’d want in 2020. So he might have to coach from upstairs in 2020 just to get us doing what he actually wants.

The last time we picked a long term Port assistant ended well.

Ironicly he would be probably coaching port if they had the Money to Pay out hinkley

Just finished watching the presser. Im super impressed. Can see how the panel would have had him as favourite throughout the process. Spoke so well and can see the lads really playing for him and each other.

I felt pretty empty this year. Im already excited for next year.

Got the impression he is going to put his stamp on things. Not quite as passive as Pyke.

Not necessarily "my way or the highway", but certainly no pushover.

Sounds like he wanted a team that gives him the ability to tinker with it a bit. We'll have new blood coming in over the next 2-3 years and that sounded like it appealed to him. Probably not the guy to have brought in when we got Pyke as our team was fairly well set then.

At GWS, Nicks honed his coaching craft as senior assistant. His people skills were evident when he acted as conduit between Leon Cameron and the assistant coaches, and as liason between the coaches and the fitness/high performance department, while bearing the analytics and ball-movement portfolios.
Opposition analytics and ball movement, two big issues we had this year, so that's a big tick too.
