Opinion Matthew Nicks: Adelaide's Coach

Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide's rebuild?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

Wasn't too excited about the everyone staying and we'll have a think about whether or not we need a senior assistant stuff.

First time coach needs more than Ben Hart and a couple of SANFL coaches with a year of experience to support him if we are serious about it.

Hopefully more to come, probably something a Football Manager should be involved in.

I get the give him a year and see how everyone performs and what he needs stuff, but we say that every time and not much changes.

He certainly speaks very well and is positive, that's 1 thing I guess. A good communicator will do wonders for uniting our players again. Whether or not he can coach successfully only time will tell. With our re-build though I suspect it will take some time.

Yep, I'm on board. Words are cheap, but really liking his key themes.

And i get the theory of best available yada yada, but i friggin love he's a South Aust boy. Got goose bumps from the part of his presser where he says 'were South Australians. So yeah, we're coming home'.

Loved it (I'm weird like that)

Is the Nicks appointment a shrewd one or just one to appease the warring parties ??

Certainly comes across as level-headed and "no-fuss" but he will have his trainer wheels on, very interested to see how the remainder of the coaching panel gets assembled from here.
Choices for senior coaches with experience were Ross, BScott, Voss.

I'll take someone untried thanks.

Listening to him on SEN, sounds like Nicks is keen on Sloane staying as Captain, but players and coaches still to be consulted.

Very strong on Brad Crouch sticking around.

No real stance on Jenkins.

Said Crows contacted him in the first week of the finals to see if he'd be interested, then left him alone until GWS lost the GF.

Please tell me Ross Lyon didn't get an interview ??

And for what it's worth, spoke with Voss on Friday night at the Gold Coast casino, struggled to string a sentence together, was well on the frothies with his mates.

Godden - the structure that came this year was an improvement, however I have an inkling the game style was influenced by him. Wasn’t attractive. Will give him the benefit of the doubt for 1 year.

Matter - improved immensely from the previous year, but was that because the midfield structure was better, Hart was that bad, or a mixture of both? Again, will give him benefit of the doubt for 1 year.

Hart - everything he touches turns to crap. I’d give port adelaide Carlton’s 2nd round pick if they’d take hart off our hands.

Completely and utterly underwhelmed by him.

But having a shit coach when we're going to be bottom 4 is no big deal really, hopefully someone better is available in 3 years when he gets the boot.
