I didn't realise M.Warnock was 27, that changes things considerably. Probably more a case of Warnock + Pick for Jacobs instead of Jacobs + Pick for Warnock then.

For some reason I thought he was 25 tops.

As for Thornton, he is playing VFL, despite the seniors stuggling for a key defender. Warnock is playing VFL (and playing very well there) because his club has a potential AA CHB in Frawley and Garland also playing very well in a key post.

Nathan Brown at Collingwood has spent most of the year in the VFL also, and probably wan't play finals, but that is because he is a FB and has to compete with Presti. Despite this, his trade value would probably be a first round pick. We would never trade him though, so it doesn't matter.

Hawthorn would give up there first round draft pick for Warnock. Warnock work more than Jacob's and a late draft pick. Plus does Melbourne even need a ruckman?
We have Beau Dowler(+ 2nd round draft pick) or just a straight swap with our first round draft pick!

Carlton or Hawthorn would be the ones wanting someone like Matty Warnock.

Perhaps Sam Jacobs + late pick could get the deal done? Or Hampson? (Ithink Jacobs is a better footballer personally)

Jamar can't ruck solo forever and Gawn has a few years of development ahead of him. Paul Johnson is a spud, so it would be win win for both clubs.

I don't see who the Hawks have that would address a need to Melbourne without some risk attached.

Have u even seen Gawn?
He won't take 3 years to develop maybe half next season then he should be getting some games.

Thornton is out of the side for disciplinary reasons. Will have played in the seniors otherwise.

Wrong, he is out because he is not playing well and doesn't fit in our structures ATM. He may have been dropped for disciplinary reasons but is not out now because of it.

Thornton has barely any trade value.

Likely to stay then?

That's an interesting question, no idea of course but Newton played on the weekend as well and I've had him pencilled in for a dead cert delisting for six months. Joel MacDonald was injured so it could either be a direct replacement for J.Mac, Bails giving them a farewell game or an attempt to boost his trade value prior to the end of the season.

In an ideal world we'd keep him for depth, but if he's not going to get consistent game time then why bother keeping him? Let him go to a club where he's got a much better chance of playing firsts footy, let the bloke play his final years in AFL not in the VFL.

If we want to trade for a specific player then we have to give up a bit of quality, Warnock is an obvious choice because of our depth in key defenders btu it will be in interesting trading period this year.

Makes it more liekly than less likely.

Unless we get a first round pick then I don't see why we would make it particularly easy for him to leave. He is if nothing else very good depth for the injury prone Garland and Rivers.

Sadly Max Gawn blew his knee out 2 weeks ago. Not sure of the degree or if its the same knee he's had reco'd but it is a set back none the less.

I would throw the Saints in too. They've got Zac playing FB and considering their first pick would be mid to late 20ish, its a price worth paying IMO. A ready FB who'll make their structure look better and give confidence to the team their fullback can go one on one.

Hawks got early to mid pick 20's. Same deal. Don't really like the players thrown up by Hawks so will only deal with picks.

Carlton. Early/mid Pick 20's? But they've got players thrown up that i'm interested in. Jacobs or Hampson and an exchange of late round picks.

GCSuns.

Those are the 4 possibilities.

It's getting into a Max Bailey Story. Hope not. :(

I feel like I am talking to a brick wall.

IF Warnock wants to leave and selects his destination as Carlton than Hawthorn has NO SAY. Warnock as a free agent has to sign any contract before a trade is official.

Melbourne cannot choose his destination, it is all on Warnock.

Warnock is contracted for 2011. Therefore if he wants an opportunity elsewhere MFC does have a massive say.

I just don't think he will fetch a 1st rounder. I'm not sure what I would offer as I haven't seen that much of him this year/ I wouldn't be parting with a 1st round pick for a 26 (27 at the start of the year) yr old playing in the VFL regardless of how good Melbourne supporters think he is.

Probably more likely to get a 2nd rounder.

EDIT: This is on the proviso that Warnock wants to leave for better opportunity. So many variables involved:
- He will be 27 next year and with a short time in the AFL he will want to make the most of it while he can and not play out his career in the VFL.
- What are Melbourne's plans for him, have they said he will play a major part in their future or just as a depth player?
- If he is contracted, will Melbourne let him go? If he is not, there are a few clubs that will be interested in his services namely Carlton and Hawthorn and they will want him reasonably cheaply.

this is going with melbourne dont want to keep him and considering he is in our leadership for the china trip i think you may have to look elsewhere hawk fans

So you wouldn't want our first round draft or our 2nd & 3rd round draft pick?

Also that doesn't mean he will stay!

I love it how you think Big Footy members are in charge of their clubs recruiting BM. :D Whatever we say or whatever you say really doesn't matter.

BM are you really Chris Pelchen?

If he was Chris Pelchen - he'd have already offered up a cripple plus a 4th round pick.

Hawthorn need to remember that Karma has bitten them at the trade table before.

They screwed the Roos by withholding Jon Hay's medical records .. and scored 2 first round picks for a player who was prone to depression and drug dependance ... a year later the recruiting of Mitch Thorp (a player who fittingly lied about his injury history to the Hawks) at #6 evened it out.

You need to go easy on hitting yourself in the head as it seems to be having an effect upon your capacity for clear thinking. Possibly, you still even think Thornton was worth more than two second round draft picks in the superdraft; or maybe Judd (acknowledged as the best footballer going around at the time of his trade) was not worth the number one draft pick carltank had worked so hard to receive. Or maybe, carltank were just over-rating their own players and under-rating other teams so as to get the best outcome for their team.

Hawthorn received picks 14 and 18 (Birchall and Bailey) for Hay and Lonie, perhaps Bailey is karma in your narrow way of looking at these things.

Where's your evidence that hawthorn kept medical records on Hay's medical condition - you won't be able to produce them because there apocryphal and a product of your damaged head.
