According to Knightmare today:

Rioli is one I've had to search online for some match footage of and in watching a few of his games he's won me over, as I'd noticed little of him last year.

My next power rankings are in December, and I'll have to consider whether I include him inside my top-20. He could be just in or just out. He'd be inside my top-30 now for sure.

Watching his forward pressure, tackling, those second, third, fourth efforts. He also looks great with ball in hand, just has that instinctive feel and makes opponents look silly with how quick his mind to body connection is and how he moves with ball in hand and creates time and space for himself so effortlessly. He can win his own ball and is excellent at ground level. He's a talent and for mine a little better than Daniel Rioli. If recruiters have been paying attention, a bid in the first round is justifiable, and if not, with how highly clubs rate small forwards these days it would be a shock not to see a bid come for him in the second round.

Looks more like a tackling machine which suites the game style. But does he kick goals?

Yes he has kicked goals.

We haven't seen a full season of him obviously. But MRJ has a heap of tricks and great defensive forward ability. Looking talented.

I think we need an upgrade on our small forwards, Ryan would be nice, settle for Maurice Jnr, someone will real flair. Would work nicely with cousin Dan.
Ryan is a superstar, he certainly would be nice
I’d love to see the shackles released from our small forwards and given a licence to be more attacking.
Iooking at MJ he has natural flair, xfactor, goal sense. But also has the defensive mindset to lay tackles.

Ryan sure is special. Reckon Daniel Rioli's class comes to the fore in finals strangely. Copes a fair bit of slack (and made some bad mistakes against Brisbane), but he kicks clutch goals regularly in finals, the one off his toes was a beauty, so maybe there is something to what you say. I don't think our forward pressure is so important with Lynch as we kick a lot of high balls in, so maybe they should be more attacking. But Aarts and Castagna don't really have the class. Melbourne's young Pickett looks a beauty. Maybe young Maurice might be one.

Freo trying to poach

Can’t see him nominating them but it’s worth a try except if your Essendon nobody wants to go to you lol 😂

So Freo are the competitor that aren’t giving up?

Daniel plays at Richmond, his Dad played for Richmond, he gets to nominate the team that can select him, 100% will be Richmond.

What does the article say anyway?
Honestly nothing much, just that Freo are keen to interview him, though it sounds like he’ll be the one interviewing Freo as they want to put their case forward for why he should pick them, just them doing their due diligence. The headline is just the usual click bait headline.

Article is in the trade thread a couple of pages back. Basically said Freo want to interview him and I guess talk up their club 🤷‍♂️ Don’t really know why it needs to be reported it’s not like a shit ton of other clubs aren’t interested in interviewing him, try to get him to nominate the open draft.

Anyone with inside knowledge know if we're planning to take him? Actually more and more thinking he's not just a want but a need, we're lacking a super quality small and you hope he'll be that.

Tiger71 any ideas?

100% he is ours. I can't find the interview but he has committed to us regardless of what the jurnos say

Also if his dad's history with us and the daniel connection weren't enough, he has been living in Melbourne for a couple years so a third massive move for an 18yo would be a big ask
