I remember how exciting it was when Daniel landed at Tigerland. Yeah he's in a bit of a form slump but he will come good. If we get Maurice Jnr look out. Might help inspire Daniel. Could be our version of the Kraukour brothers in the 80's.
Statistically he is down this yr but what has to be acknowledged is statistically his numbers are historically poor.

To date he has not shown an ability to CONSISTENTLY go thru the midfield.
He is in yr 5, he is 23 yrs of age and he is now getting close to 100 games with 85 ?.

His averages for basically a small fwd
Goals
Career 0.88 - this yr 0.80. Basically the same.Less than a goal a game it is well below average or what should be expected. 72 for his career.

Tackles
Career 3.1 - this yr 1.8. Imo historically not a big tackle maker and it is down by roughly just one a game this yr.So hes not kicking goals and that leaves a defensive fwd and hes not laying a lot of tackles.

I/F
career 2.2 - this yr 1.6. Numbers arent huge id suggest below average. Is this a lack of work rate or motor.

Disposals
Career 11.2 - This yr 7.6. for a defensive small fwd the numbers are ok but for a small fwd who kicks few goals and lays few tackles id say they are poor.

Goal assists
Career 0.5 - this yr 0.2 not good numbers either way.

Contested ball
Career 4.3 - this yr 3.4. hes never been a big contested ball winner he does the odd sublime thing and this i think wins people over.

One percenters
Career 1.0 this yr 1.0. gotta ask has it been enough. I have this category because it gives an indication of work with out the ball. unfortunately i dont have pressure act stats, and with the above the way it is they had damn well need to be elite. Not that i read too much into pressure act stats per say, as there are just so many ways to decipher them.

Imo the stats show he has been pretty average his entire career !!!! mixed in with the odd real good game. The stats also show there is a drop off this yr from what is not a high base to start with. Imo he continues to be extremely inconsistent not just week to week but during games as well.
Gotta ask is it really good enough to have so many below average performances and does the odd good game suffice for them?

He played just 12 games in 2018 and that IMO was easily his best season. It has been clear to see a regular drop off over 2019 and it continues this yr, the stats just confirm what people are seeing. Its a body of over 27 games now over a period where in his career he should be improving not going backwards.

hes in their academy zone

spud obviously

He has talent and athleticism, but I don't think he's super-interested in footy. I don't want to write negatively about the kid, so hopefully my information is outdated now and he can play strong football this NTFL season.

he's a future bummer. Let's all gather round and say a prayer to the devil that he doesn't make it :D

Remember that the quarters are shortened so his numbers this year aren't as bad as they seem

Spot on. And on top of that the game plan is struggling. Our tactics seem to be ineffective & small fwds seem invisible. Especially Daniel. Anyhow I've cooled of on Maurice Jnr.
Don’t think we’ll be using an early pick on Junior.
I’ve heard Blair talk about ranking players in the draft and when our pick/s comes around bidding regardless of whether a player is tied to another club (ie academy or FS). So assume that Junior will be ranked like every other player.

Understand that but his numbers are mostly down on what is aready a low base imo.
People are saying he is having a worse yr than usual im not sure that is the case, imo this yr is not all that different to previous yrs and i think the numbers back that up.

The question im asking myself is why has this player not been able to transition into a reasonable mid?.Why in the last two yrs is he actually tracking backwards?.

Fair enough , going on what we know since , sounds like bs, he even said he wants to play at RFC. My worry is where the club rates him
Well I said it would be good to have another Rioli at Richmond and they replied he wants to play at Freo.
Like I said it was awhile ago and I didn't push for a reason why but the person would 100% know if he felt that way.
But things change. Again, was just sharing what I was told.

The worry is as mentioned our recruiters will rank him which I expect would be > 50
If say ess did a mosquito and threw a r2 on the table , my spider senses tell me we wouldn’t match ,, we ll see I spose , on exposed form would be a brave bid at r2

After letting Steng Dogz and Butface go we are now a little short on specialist small forwards and we have shown a bit of a liking in the past for drafting players of a type together in the same year. I think we will go for a couple of small forwards and MRii should be one of them. Might have to start in jumper number 17.1.

Huge huge need for quality bigger bodied inside out mids.
In essence atm there is only Martin and Cotchin who are well rounded bigger mids. Theres Caddy but you would not give two bob for his inside game.
In the wings there is only Ross and RC-D. Personally id like us to target a big inside out mid thru trade and the best possible kid in the draft.

We already have 9 or 10 small players who play small fwd. Rioli, Castagna, Aarts, Higgins, Cumberland 183cm should be classed as a medium fwd i suppose, at 183 hes a small medium. Stack plenty want him played fwd and he could well end up there for all we know.
Plus small fwd mids Lambert, Edwards, Bolton with Baker being a former small fwd. The only reason we should need another small fwd is if hes a big goal kicker 40 50 goals a season because the whole lot we have dont look anywhere near that.

The only specialist medium fwds we have on the list are Cumberland who has been mentioned and Ralphsmith whos a good size at 188cm.
Caddy has spent time there in the past but plays mostly elsewhere and then theres Dusty who really should be spending as much time as possible on the ball imo.

Personally the one i hope makes it is RC-D. At 193cm ? very quick strong bodied likes a tackle there is no reason he could not be the rotation partner for Dusty fwd. He would also help us big time with clearances if he goes on to be the player we hope he can become. At 193cm he would effectively give us an explosive third tall who could supply the fwd pressure our smalls do at the moment.

We have RCD and Ross who look inside mids and decent quality future players at this stage. So we could well fill that need from our current list. We do want more specialised dynamite speed small forwards now, you have George and Daniel really in that category. So mini Maurice would be most welcome. May not be worth a first rounder but it would be tough to pass him up past that I think. I am sure our highly incompetent recruiters will get it all wrong as they usually do Mopsy. Thankfully while they normally get it wrong they do so a little bit less often than other clubs do. 😁
