THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Have you ever described a car accident you have been in?
I got hit from behind by a guy doing around 80kms hr while i was stationary.
Saw him in my mirror a split second before impact but reqcted by removing my hands from the steering wheel and foot from the brakes to dissipate the energy that would be transferred to my car.
That was a split second but look how much typing it took to describe it.
Verbal takes a minute at least.

You should’ve jumped out of the car and braced for impact with your shoulder.

In all seriousness I have been hit in the same way at the same speed, car behind me was ****ed and lucky I was in a tougher van or I may have been too, you are kind of proving the point. In a very short amount of time, less than a second, you can make proper decisions to save or minimise harm to yourself or others.

Maynard chose to minimise the harm to himself which in turn meant he did not show duty of care to Brayshaw. When you leave the ground that is something you must do.

If you have enough time to turn and lead with the shoulder, you have time to make other decisions.

Maynard prioritised his own wellbeing. No duty of care to his opponent displayed.

Impact severe. Unquestionable. Conduct careless. Unquestionable.

Result: 3 weeks.

No idea what you muppets have been talking about for 149 pages. He's cooked.

“After I smothered the ball, I came and I looked down and I thought ‘s**t, he’s there’. I sort of seized up,” Maynard said.

“Next thing I know he was on the floor and I was just a bit rattled myself.”

Its like a bad episode of Law and Order SVU when they finally get the killer to confess.

If someone is trying to smother a kick it shouldn't be a surprise to them that the guy kicking the ball is going to be nearby.

Maynard would have known where Brayshaw was more than Brayshaw would have known where he was so he had the duty of care.

You are fully cooked. There was nothing he could of done after trying to another except protect himself or get hit himself too. You prefer both players get knocked out ?
The ppl suggesting he get banned need to get their heads checked. They barely know what it's like to play footy
I think the colour of the jumper that Maynard wears is swaying a few

Moment he jumped as opposed to moment he braced for contact after attempting to smother.
Understood, but the mere fact they are extrapolating further back is interesting.

True, but i made a point earlier that he was clear of the oppo trajectory when he left the ground.
Brayshaws motion closed the gap.
It’s a very difficult one that will result in rule changes as everyone is suggesting but under the current rules an attempt to smother under these circumstances is not a reportable offence

Seems pretty clear cut when you actually follow the guidelines.

An unfortunate accident but accidents have been punished plenty of times before. Lesser hits have got weeks at the tribunal.

People get funny around finals time as if the rules should change. Do this in a preseason game and no one bats an eye at a suspension.

This is about Maynard/Brayshaw, not Talia's gameplan or getting caught cheating ie Tippett
Since you brought it up, it was your player who gave away the information. It’s not like Daniel Talia went black ops into Whitten Oval and stole info.

But you’re right, that’s not what this thread is about so I’ll leave it there.

"he jumped off two feet" huh? he stayed on his line, brayshaw kicked at a funny angle, he's giving those shite arguments, but jumped off two feet? like, I'm not going to post any more pictures, I think everyone's seen this thing enough times now...
Yeah, he jumped solely off his right foot, but he does skip on his left before jumping. Brayshaw does move to his right after kicking, at which point Maynard is already in the air.

AFL really didn’t do enough to accentuate the careless argument. Maynard’s counsel is tearing them to shreds.

Wonder why

Maynard only cared about trying to smother the footy, he had no duty of care for Brayshaw, it was just an afterthought once contact was made.

So basically he’s admitted that he was, at a bare minimum, careless in terms of the AFL’s matrix.

Case closed.

AFL are responsible for taking reasonable action to reduce concussions. In the context of AFL footy is it reasonable to take jumping for marks out of the game. No it isn't.
Then that would be hypocritical, jump to smother not ok (which it will be written into the rules), jump and knee someone in the head in a marking contest, ok
