THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

I love how people were saying Collingwood posters need to remain decent, yet all I see are other supporters advocating for violence against our players.

Additionally, if you still really think it was deliberate you need to stop watching football as you'll never understand the game.
I don’t think people are saying it was deliberate. I think they are saying it was careless and high impact.

A Pies player got concussed by Bris player, a week or two before this.. Ended his season with a knee to the back of the head in a marking contest. No one cared...

Accidents happen, suck it up.
I think many believe the AFL should do more to reduce concussions.

My gut feel at the time was that it was a footy act, correct decision for football. I hope Brayshaw is ok and I hope he plays the prelim and/or GF
Is a tackle a footy act? Merrett suspended for a tackle that may have caused head injury but didnt. Maynard gets off for a footy act that knocks a player out, sounds reasonable

You can put your house on it, the rules will be re written if you elect to smother and injure the other player you'll get suspended. This will become effective immediately.

Currently jumping to smother is not illegal, regardless of outcome.

Change will be immediate.

Still makes no sense to me that he turned his body instead of putting his hands out in front like a normal person who is about to hit something.

Does he turn his body and use his when he's about to hit the out of bounds fence or stop with his hands?

go and watch a few cases of what players do when they slide into the fence. They never extend out their arms.

Can you imagine if say Viney knocked out Pendles the same way Maynard did to Brayshaw. Pies supporters would be saying the exact opposite to what they are all saying now
And Melbourne supporters would be saying the exact opposite too. That’s sport for you unfortunately.
