THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Common sense prevails, however we all know with the utter incompetence of the AFL tribunal if this was round 3 he would have got weeks..... go figure
The fact that this was even on the tribunals minds ( player potentially missing a gf ) shows that the tribunal needs to re formed, every member needs to be sacked. The incident needed to be graded on its own regardless of consequences

I've actually got no real issue with Maynard, but the tribunal have basically accepted the evidence that once a player leaves his feet he's not in control of his body or responsible for the results of his actions.
Go watch Adelaide v Collingwood from earlier in the year. Darcy Fogarty jumped off the ground and knocked out Nathan Murphy in a marking contest, initiating high contact. Wasn't even paid as as free, let alone referred to the tribunal. There are countless other examples of this, it's a contact sport.

Correct call in the end. Player's who are on the receiving end need to show more awareness and take responsibility for themselves (Brayshaw included). That seems to have declined of late in no small part due to the changes to protect the head has led players to chase head contact in order to receive free kicks.

Can you imagine if say Viney knocked out Pendles the same way Maynard did to Brayshaw. Pies supporters would be saying the exact opposite to what they are all saying now
That’s our code,so many greys.

I don’t think people are saying it was deliberate. I think they are saying it was careless and high impact.
Then we are reading different threads. Plenty of use of the word "disguised" around here. If Maynard someone meant to do what he did, then he is a greater stuntman/martial artist than Jackie Chan.

Don't worry Goodwin was talking different when it was the other way around less than 4 months ago.

Congratulations Pies on your 2024 premiership.

Because the AFL clearly want you to win.

I state again, the AFL competition has been good for AFL clubs, but has been an abject failure for the sport of Australian Rules Football across the country.
Are we goin back to back?
