THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Common sense prevails, however we all know with the utter incompetence of the AFL tribunal if this was round 3 he would have got weeks..... go figure
I still can’t work out how Sicily gets 3 under these “duty of care” guidelines but this gets off because some bloke used ms paint to draw some tram lines.

Regardless of what you think of the incident, in 2023 that’s careless conduct and the AFL are playing favourites here. Finals discount with an added big Vic club paper bag.

You can put your house on it, the rules will be re written if you elect to smother and injure the other player you'll get suspended. This will become effective immediately.

Currently jumping to smother is not illegal, regardless of outcome.

Change will be immediate.
Perhaps they will re-write the rules to say ...."If you elect to do anything that leads to injury you will be suspended".
See how silly that is? It's a contact sport, with danger everywhere. That's why we love it and sneer at soccer.

Then we are reading different threads. Plenty of use of the word "disguised" around here. If Maynard someone meant to do what he did, then he is a greater stuntman/martial artist than Jackie Chan.
Yeah there is no way Maynard intended to hurt Brayshaw. I just thought that was a given tbh.
