THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Is a tackle a footy act? Merrett suspended for a tackle that may have caused head injury but didnt. Maynard gets off for a footy act that knocks a player out, sounds reasonable
A tackle is a footy act. I'm not sure which incident you mean or when it happened. The rules have been reinforced to outlaw the double action sling tackle and all clubs have been aware of this. You can clearly see duty of care taken with tackles now in games which is a good thing.

I’d be getting the boys to practice some heavy smothering on Naicos in the Prelim

Exactly, players will be looking to take guys out with these type of smothers now including Daicos

Then there are the kids being taken out to

I tell you what, no way would I umpire a footy match.

Too risky legally for health risk compo lawsuits

People who have no knowledge of the history of our great game seem to have forgotten the names Coventry, Carman, Cloke and Rocca.
Pies have had as much or more GF suspension heartache than most. Probably cost us 2 flags. The carry on that he is cleared because he plays for the Pies simply shows those posters have no knowledge of the history of our game.

Can you imagine if say Viney knocked out Pendles the same way Maynard did to Brayshaw. Pies supporters would be saying the exact opposite to what they are all saying now
Like you all did last year when Cripps ironed out AhChee. Suspended , then appealed, got off, played the next week, got 3 votes and won the Brownlow.
Did we see Carlton fans saying Cripps should NOT appeal?

I've actually got no real issue with Maynard, but the tribunal have basically accepted the evidence that once a player leaves his feet he's not in control of his body or responsible for the results of his actions.

It's an interesting precedent.

The onus was also on Brayshaw to not run into a player jumping vertically as it was found out tonight.

Good decision.

Reminded me of the Mitch Duncan incident earlier in the year where he braced himself and the Swans player cannoned into him and he was ultimately cleared.

Must say, huge relief for Collingwood fans. Be tough winning without him.

Anyone notice that the 2 most controversial "passes" to clear cut suspensions involve 2 very powerful clubs in the vfl coterie?

Cripps Carlton
Maynard Collingwood

You could start a train of thought here that there might be some money and power at play.......

Precedent set ...... which of course will last until someone from another team or an indigenous player does it then expect a 3+ week suspension

AFL tribunal is the world's most fkd up lottery
The precedent is if you jump off the ground to spoil and after you leave the ground someone shifts to the right into your drop zone and you land on them you won't get suspended.

Don't think we're going to see a spate of blokes jumping to smother and land a little bit off the line of a kicker in the hope that the kicker changes course and they can knock them out.
